Elite Characters

Each of the six playable races has an Elite, a group of powerful individuals with extra powers who are looked to for guidance and who set an example to the rest of their species. These Elite groups are only available to the strongest of characters (OOC: Level 8 and above) and you, as the player, must apply.

The information on this page is purely out-of-character and outlined for your use as a player. Should we at any point suspect you of using this information to grant your character an unfair advantage, you will be disqualified from becoming a member of the elite.

Having said that, you should know that the in-character rituals, challenges and tests of the elite are designed to weed out the weaker members of each race. If successful, your character will be learning a varied set of skills that will make them almost as powerful as the Aides and to prevent accidents and powerplays, each elite group is held to a strict code of honour. Only those who display the ability to control their new powers and not be swayed by greed are considered as potentials.

Out-of-character, elite groups are designed to reward active, long-term members who through their roleplay have demonstrated the skills required to act as OOC role-models and set a roleplay standard that other members can strive for.

Beware that many of the rituals and challenges that your character is put through in-character can prove fatal. However, because we cannot fairly kill characters without the consent of the players, we've devised an out-of-character application system that assumes your character has gone through these tests. If your application is successful, we say the testing was done off-screen. If your application is unsuccessful, we pretend it never happened and you can reapply at a later date without endangering your character.

Elite Requirements

As mentioned above, elite groups are meant to reward both you and your character for sticking with Elysian Fields through thick and thin, posting actively and well, and much more. As such, there are standards and requirements you and your character must meet before you can apply.
  1. Your character must be level 8 or above.
  2. *Your character must have the strength of mind and body necessary to learn the very dangerous abilities granted to them and the capacity to deal with the extreme increase in level without becoming power-hungry or using their new skills against others. Each race has very distinct opinions on who is worthy of the extra powers and will not grant Elite to anyone exhibiting traits that could come back to haunt them.
  3. *The mandate of each elite group (IC) is to set a high standard for their race at all times. They are honourable, politically neutral and loyal to their species. Their intention is to help people, not to gain power for power's sake (another reason they need strength of mind). If the leader of their race asks a favour of them, they give it gladly. In short, they are the true elite not only of their species' abilities but also in conduct.
  4. You should be active, with no less than four posts per week. If you're away, you'll have informed us by way of the Character Status/Going Away thread and you shouldn't have been on the missing list recently. The more active you are and the more you write in each post, the better your chances will be.
  5. You should be following our rules to the letter and in your dealings with Elysian officials be polite and helpful.
  6. You should be at least semi-literate. Mispellings and typos are understandable where chatspeak is not.
  7. The more involved you are in the site, the more eager we'll be to accept you. We love when people enter our contests and participate in the quests we've worked so hard to prepare. Many of the OOC activities on the site only take a few minutes so it's easy to be involved even when you don't have a lot of time and it helps to make Elysian Fields an active community, encouraging others to become more involved. ^^
* However, if your character is a badass or has been exiled, etc, it may still be possible to achieve Elite status. Talk to an Aide before applying.

Rights & Responsibilities

Once you have successfully applied for Elite status, you will gain rights that none of the other groups and subgroups will have but with those rights will also come responsibilities. The rights granted to the Elite largely depends on their own species and don't always outweigh or even balance their responsibilities. Generally, each elite character gains the following rights and responsibilities:
  1. It is your right ask for help from anyone of your own race. While those asked could turn others down, they cannot turn you away. It is your responsibility to offer payment for that service and see that the favour is returned.
  2. It is your responsibility to answer any summons from those holding political positions within your species, especially governors, and to offer any help you can.
  3. It is your right to wield powers and learn abilities that are otherwise restricted. It is your responsibility to only use these powers for the good of you race and the greater good of Elysia.
  4. It is your right to enter any realm that belongs to your race even if it is off-limits to others (for example, Black Dragons have full access to the dragon realm of Nirim even though others are escorted at all times).
  5. It is your responsibility to uphold the same standards of roleplay and activity that enabled you to become elite and to set an example to other members.
  6. It is your right to roleplay a character with extreme powers above and beyond what the rest of that character's race is capable of, but it is also your responsibility not to abuse those powers with power-playing, godmodding or mary-sueing. Such abuse includes the designing of your character specifically so they can become elite.
  7. It is your responsibility to welcome newcomers to Elysian Fields and offer assistance wherever possible.
  8. In the case of elite groups that gain companions of some kind (eg. Black Dragons) it is your right to roleplay creatures outlined by your race's guide (eg. summoning two black dragons). It is your responsibility to ensure those companions are not neglected which means you should be roleplaying them frequently.

Forfeiture

Abilities cannot be taken away once they've been gained. However, should you or your character fail any of the above duties, you may lose the Elite title and all the rights thereof including access to special in-character realms, any companions your character might have gained (such as the black dragon pair bonded to Black Dragons) and any privileges. If you've broken the mandate severely enough, you may even be banned from using the powers you've gained. Ignoring this ban might encourage your governor or even the Aides to put a bounty on your head.

Note: If your character is on the missing list for more than three months, you may lose some of the rights granted to the elite and may not be able to regain them straight away if and when you return.

The Application

If you think you and your character have what it takes to join the elite groups, you need to send your application to the Officiates account from the character you're applying for. Please read this thread fully before doing so, however. ^^
  1. Read everything you can about your character's race. Elite members will be learning to wield most, if not all, the powers of their race so they should know as much as possible about those powers as well as background about their species' history and culture. You may even be called on to answer questions out-of-character so make sure you can answer them. ^__~
  2. Make sure you've read this thread properly and understand what we expect from elite characters. If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask an Aide.
  3. Look back at your character's history. We'll be checking your roleplays to see how active you are and how well you follow our rules. Please check if you actually fit the requirements before applying, it'll help us out and save us some time. ^^
  4. When you send your application, please make sure the title is "[Race] Elite Application", replacing [Race] with your character's species so we know what it's about, and fill out the form you'll find below in full. ^^ Please note it may take a few weeks for us to review your application and your character so please be patient.

Elite Groups

Not all the races currently have elite groups available but they will be added so please keep an eye out. ^^ In the meantime, these are the elites currently available:

Band of Honour (Honoured)

At level 8, an Anyelos should be quite powerful. If they've performed heroic deeds or somehow advanced the Anyeli race they may be picked out by the Anyeli council as the recipient of a Band of Honour.

The Band itself is a simple skein of thread tied around the upper left arm and comes in the colour associated with the Anyelos's subgroups (ie, black for warriors, blue for Peacekeepers). The title of the Honoured is what's really important, however, and grants them the right to learn all the powers of their race. This means that Peacekeepers can become warriors and warriors can gain the empathic abilities taught to Peacekeepers; Skotadi can learn the Apalos' control of light and vice versa. They become the elite of their race. However, they cannot be seen to do or say anything that will trigger another war.

Black Dragon

At level 8, a Dragon can perform a series of rituals that will enable them to become Black Dragons, a very rare class of Dragon that grants them the ability to morph into full beast form. However, it is highly recommended the Dragon not perform these rituals until they're much more experienced (at least level 9, preferably 10) as this is the most dangerous elite group to get into. These rituals will kill your character if they should fail.

Having said that, however, becoming a Black Dragon is an impressive achievement and not only do they gain the abilities of other Septs but they also gain two black dragon companions (an imp and, depending on the dragon summoned at Level 5, either a beast (western/eastern) or a drake (wyvern/wyrm)).

Guardian of the Balance (Guardian)

The Guardian of the Balance is a powerful Nymph group who straddle the balance of life and death, using both to keep Mother Nature under control. They have the power to kill with a touch or to breathe life back into the recently dead. With this power comes great responsibility and the Guardian is charged with the protection and security of their race as well as keeping the balance throughout Elysia but they can befriend almost any animal and gain a single bonded companion.

Shadow Warrior

Shadow Warriors are even more rare than Black Dragons. They are the strongest of the vampires and gain all the abilities of their race but it's very difficult to become one. Most of them have seen the beast within themselves, the results of the BloodLust, and many have given in to it. One of the most famous of the Shadow Warriors was a murderer long before he joined the ranks of the elite. However, in coming back from that and atoning for it, he proved himself worthy. That's not to say that only the killers among the race are capable of becoming Shadow Warriors, but an understanding of how the virus can lead the vampire into dangerous territory is required as the Shadow Warriors are charged with the protection of their race. They are the ones who are sent to deal with rogues who threaten not only their sanctuary and people but also the modern vision of what a vampire should be.
