Monoceros

Uses:

• Monoceros horn is known for its electromagnetic charges. When energy builds up, it can produce massive amounts of light.
• Mono hooves are almost harder than diamonds. When shaped into a dagger, they are nearly indestructible.
• Hair from a Monoceros' tail and mane can be used to fashion the strings of instruments and bows that are sturdier and more durable than usual.

Description: The Monoceros is an extremely rare and powerful black horse-like creature that lives alone in forest areas. The single horn adorning the forehead and the black mane and tail are the only things that set the Monoceros apart from its cousin, the Unicorn. Bred from normal unicorns, the Monoceros has a rare birth defect that changes both its appearance and its temperament. Unlike its majestic cousin, the Monoceros is prone to violent outbursts and thrives off isolation. Often seen as a killer, its golden horn often stained with blood, it dwells within the shadows of congested forests. Unlike the Unicorn, the Monoceros has no healing abilities but can produce massive amount of blinding white light from its horn.

Monoceros breed with other Unicorns, rarely finding those of their kind. The gene is seldom passed down to its offspring and can take many generations to reappear. Because of its violent tendencies, the foal is often cast aside at a young age, too much of a burden for the mother to care for. Some have thought that the Monoceros came from the devil himself as a way to counter a Unicorn's innocence.

Because of its rarity, hunting Monoceros is illegal and there are preservation societies, though unfortunately many have died in the attempt to save the species from extinction or even study the creature.

Abilities: Monoceros can produce massive amounts of light from their horn. However, they cannot grow their horns back as Unicorns can.
