Character Stats
Elysian Fields as a realistic fantasy game so there are several things to consider when roleplaying that you might not otherwise think about such as hunger, healing injuries and even how your character ages in comparison to a human. Your character can even die or go bankrupt.
Elysian Currency
The common denomination used across Elysia and the outer realms is called xanthos, no doubt in honour of the goddess Xanth and in reference to the precious yellow metals (namely gold) that made up the original coins.
The plural of xanthos is technically xanthai, though many Elysians use the same word, xanthos, to refer to both single and multiple coins. Denominations include ζ1, ζ2 and ζ5 coins made from gold, and ζ10, ζ20 and ζ50 coins made from a purple metal unique to the Dusky Mountains. There are ζ10, ζ20, ζ50 and ζ100 bills as well, ranging in colour from pale yellow to lilac.
As with most cultures, Elysian money features the heads of prominent figures and national heroes.
Age and Aging
Unless you have a Modest or Heroic power pack, newly created characters must be young adults (with a few exceptions).
As each race ages differently, however, it can be difficult to know what constitutes a young adult. The table below compares Elysian races within certain bands and should help you figure out how old your character should be at each point in their lives.
Under the actual age, in italics, is the character's apparent or equivalent age. This is the age that character appears to be physically, as well as their mental age, and can be used to compare the races at each stage of their development.

Exceptions
Humans can be any age over 18 when created.
Vampires do not age at all once infected and as a result may be any age when created. However, Vampires created with only the Starter Pack cannot have been Vampire for more than five years.
Having Children
All children should be approved by an administrator before the pregnancy is confirmed In-Character.
All pregnancies should last a minimum of five OOC months from conception to birth (please check the table above to see how long gestation lasts in-character). You can make it last up to the full term in real-time if you like.
Offspring can be made to age at up to five times the normal rate (so they would age five IC years in one OOC year). Infants and children should be godmodded from either parent's account (except in cases where they wander off alone); adolescents and older should be played on the NPC account.
Once an offspring has reached the Young Adult stage, they should be put up for OOC adoption, at which time the parents' players will be given the opportunity to apply for them.
Character Health
Just as you might suffer injuries or illness, your character might be poisoned or whacked over the head with a two-by-four. There are four categories of injury and illness that are used to determine how badly your character is hurt and how quickly they can heal from those injuries. These categories also determine how much a visit to a healer will cost, what potions would be effective and how long it would take for them to die of their injuries if they weren't healed.
- Minor
- Minor injuries can be ignored for the most part: you'll not be too pretty for a while and you may be sore but you'll otherwise be fine. However, giving your character an injury when they already have a minor injury will automatically upgrade their health status to moderate.
- Minor injuries include things like:
- Cuts and bruises.
- Small burns.
- Broken toes or noses.
- Warts and verrucas.
- Broken fangs / horns / tails.
- Minor injuries can be healed by a healer, a character with healing abilities, summoning Xanth, or by drinking a minor healing potion. Some minor injuries can escalate (such as infections) and will be upgraded to moderate if they aren't healed.
- Moderate
- Moderate injuries will escalate if not healed. You will not be able to take part in official quests or plots until you've been fully healed. If you're injured again, your health status will upgrade to major.
- Moderate injuries can include:
- Broken bones and wings.
- Fractures and head injuries.
- Large burns.
- Lots of bleeding.
- Major
- Major injuries will escalate dangerously if not healed. You will not be able to take part in official quests or plots until you've been fully healed and in fact most major injuries will prevent you from walking around at all. If you're injured again, your health status will upgrade to life threatening.
- Major injuries can include:
- Heavy bleeding.
- Several broken or fractured bones.
- Loss of limb / wing / tail / fangs.
- Life-threatening
- You have somehow managed to do something truly nasty to yourself (or someone did it for you). If you don't see a healer, you'll die. You will not be able to take part in official quests or plots until you've been fully healed and in fact you won't be walking around at all. If you're injured again, you'll be killed.
- Life-threatening injuries can include:
- Massive blood loss.
- Loss or breaking of multiple limbs.
- Lots of large burns.
- Heavy poison.
- Death
- Oops. You were injured so badly no one could heal you (unless you have enough karma to pay for a resurrection). But don't worry, no one can kill your character without your express written OOC permission, though if you insist on putting your character into situations where they are injured repeatedly and badly enough, a moderator may warn you that your character is going to die. If you don't get them to a healer ASAP, and/or don't reply to the death warning, we can only assume you want them dead. ;)
In addition to injuries and illnesses, your character is also subject to hunger and fatigue. We don't insist that your characters eat three meals or sleep ten hours a day but we do encourage you to have them eat and sleep or at least mention them doing so regularly. This is especially true for Vampires whose abilities come from feeding on blood and who can die especially quickly from not feeding.
