Name: Mushroom Snail

Type: Insectoids

Size: Tiny

Region: Dark forest and underground

Rarity: Common

How long does the creature normally live for? Try to include the minimum and maximum age possible, or at least an average.

The mushroom snail looks a great deal like a pale white mushroom. It has been known to glow faintly in the dark, something miners attribute to the phosphorescent mushrooms it feeds on.

How does the creature normally behave? Does it act differently towards other species, or at certain times of the year (eg. during mating season some animals might become much more aggressive). For the sake of roleplay, we're especially interested in how it interacts with humanoids.

Diet: It eats phosphorescent mushrooms, and is particularly fond of rakeri?.

Habitat: The mushroom snail is found most often in dark, moist places where mushrooms and other fungi grow, such as caverns and mineshafts.

This section is a place where you can provide breeding information (eg. how often does the creature mate? Does it need any special requirements such as a specific temperature or absolute silence in order to successfully reproduce? How long does it take for its young to grow up? etc). This section is especially useful if the creature has unusual breeding conditions.

Special Information

Does the creature have any special abilities, like the firefox's flameburst or the unicorn's healing properties?

Does the creature have any particular weaknesses, like the fire elemental's weakness to water? (You should try to keep a balance between strengths and weaknesses. ;))

  • Mushroom snails glow in the dark after feeding on phosphorescent mushrooms, so they're sometimes used in lieu of lamps. They don't give off much light, but they're often safer than oil-burning or live-flame torches, especially in the deeper and gassier underground tunnels.

Where did the creature come from? Did it evolve from another species, was it one of Xanth's experiments, or something else?
