Alexshire

Alexshire is a city-state straddling the River Cora. It is made up of the City of Alexandria, a couple of hamlets, and 300 square miles of farmland. The rich district (known as New Alexandria) houses some 5,000 of the city's wealthiest merchants and officials, and was built around Elysia's main portal.

Zephyr waited impatiently. He and Kiel had made arrangements to go to Nirim and spar today, and the time was coming up quickly. Actually, it wasn't. Zephyr had told Kiel to be here an hour later than he actually wanted the runt to arrive so that when he showed up 'early' he'd actually be ready this time. In the few weeks the boy had worked at the smithery Zephyr had started to become accustomed to his early arrivals, but they'd still had more than one atypical encounter when Kiel had arrived at an inopportune moment. today was the day that Zephyr was going to knock all of the awkwardness out of his head.

Zephyr was going to teach Kiel some throwing knife techniques, and then one way or another attempt to teach him a little bit of Judo as well. It would be good for the kid to get some practice in the ring, and with Zephyr controlling what happened he was guaranteed to not get permanently injured, at least. Just in case, though, Zephyr had brought a few healing potions with him, along with a few strength and speed augmenters as well. Zephyr wanted this to be at least mostly balanced, in case Kiel decided he wanted to actually brawl.

As he sat on the park bench, Derina, 'his' imp dragon, snoozed on his neck. In the few weeks since he'd 'gotten' her Zephyr had met up with Slythe to figure a few things out. Slythe had told Zephyr the imp's name and that Derina, or Deri, had no intentions of leaving him. Having had experiences with imps before, particularly Faroah, Zephyr had relinquished his fate to having the dragon around until he either died, she died, or she grew bored and moved on.

Sighing, Zephyr pulled his COM out of his leather pants to check the time. About 45 minutes until when he'd said to meet. Kiel would arrive any time now and then he'd summon Slythe. After Kiel stopped ogling the giant green reptile, they would head to Nirim.

“Hey, what's up. Alright, man? Looking good, pretty lady!” Pacing down the street with a peeled and half-eaten carrot clenched between his teeth and his backpack full of sparring clothes and snacks slung over his shoulder, Kiel nibbled away as he rummaged through his pockets to make sure he'd brought, like, treats for Derry and Slythe. Zeph had said not to bother 'cause, like, presents for dragons were expensive. And okay, like, so an apple probably wouldn't even think of whetting a dragon's appetite, but Derry seemed to like candy so he'd brought her some chocolate buttons, and it was the thought that counted, right? Maybe he should have bought, like, a cow or something, but it felt weird enough walking around with an apple-shaped lump on the side of his leg. Kinda woulda gotten some funky looks if he'd been trailing a cow, like, right?

“Man, oh, man, dragons. I'm in heaven, like, for sers,” he told the clouds, carrot long gone as he clutched both hands to his chest. He still couldn't quite believe Zephyr was being so nice. He was, like, so grumpy with the customers on the occasions where Kiel needed him out front. Like, no wonder he'd needed to hire somebody, right, 'cause, like, Kiel was surprised the guy managed to do any business at all. See, though, a guy with his skill could probably kill customers from time to time and still be laughing all the way to the bank, like, woah.

“Hey, yo, Zeph, man, over here!” Kiel called as he spotted the big guy's girly hair and jumped up with a hand raised for attention. He dashed the last few yards, eager to see the imp dragon again. She was so cute, like, for sers, and, like, it was so funny the way she clung to Zephyr all the time. Kinda hard to take the guy seriously when he was, like, lecturing him with such a cutie pie attached to him, hahaha.

“Derry, Derry, look what I got, man.” Skidding to a halt in front of the taller 'Varian, Kiel leaned over and absently steadied himself with a hand on Zephyr's knee as he pulled out the bag of chocolate buttons. “Hee, she got bigger, I swear, like, so cute, man.” Looking around as he bonuced on his toes, he asked, “Is he here yet, is he? Where is he?”

Zephyr almost slammed his head into his palm as Kiel started shouting. Oh well, at least he'd guess about right with the timing. Only off by around fifteen minutes. And of course practically instantly he had chocolate out and Derina was gliding to meet him. Hew wings were starting to develop, now, and she'd begun to pick up a few word in her own form of english. “Chocho, chocho!” she squealed as she landed on Kiel's hands clumsily and attacked the plastic packaging with her teeth before teleporting back to Zephyr's head. The imp fumbled with the bag that was nearly as large as her for about 5 seconds before falling off of Zephyr's scalp and landing on the wooden bench with a soft thud. She was quickly up, as always, and began begging Zeph to open the package for her. “Dada, chocho!” she squealed until Zephyr relented, slashing the package haphazardly with a dagger. “Dammit Kiel, why'd you bring that stuff?” he said in aggravation as he stood, intentionally knocking Kiel off of him in the process, and grabbed he black leather duffel bag off the ground.

Sending out the call to Slythe, Zephyr barely resisted the urge to strangle both Kiel and Derina as they squealed annoyingly. “He'll be here shortly, but we don't have much time for stroking his ego. I only reserved the training room for as few hours,” he lectured, eying the bulging bag on the younger 'varian's back. “You do have better clothes in there, right?” he questioned as he picked up the tangled mess of purple dragon and brown chocolate off the bench.

Slythe groaned. It wasn't like Zephyr hadn't told him over a week ago that he'd be calling today, it was just that Zephyr was calling at all. It meant that Slythe would have to get up. And his nest was so comfy and glittery, especially after being bonded to Zephyr for so long. So many prretty weapons and trinkets. Enough to make any treasure seeker mad. Ok, maybe not any, but Slythe liked to think that way.

Pouting for a few minutes, Slythe sighed before teleporting between the realms to New Alexandria. Alexshire, technically. Ever since that... incident with the pet storre Slythe had been banned from the inner city of New Alexandria. Zephyr hadn't seemed to mind too much, though, so Slythe hadn't felt too bad. Still, though, it did mean the draon owed the man, if only a little bit.

Appearing a few blocks away from Kiel and Zephyr, Slythe grinned (as muuch as a dragon can grin, that is) and decided to make a dramatic entrance. First he flew upwards for a few seconds, then, when he had built up a good height, he dove nearly straight down, spinning as he fell. Just before making impact with the grass-covered ground he pulled up, soaring directly towards the pair of rutilus. The big one was definitely his, along with the little serpent in his hands. The littler oone had to be Kiel, though. After all, that's who Zephyr was supposedly going to introduce to Slythe today. Skidding to a dramatic stop, Slythe stood proudly as largely as he could before the pair. Spewing a stream of flame into the air for good measure, the beast ignored the shrieks and scoldings of bystanders all around the group.

“Ngh,” Kiel had replied as Zephyr complained, sticking his tongue out. He'd been completely, well, mostly unperturbed by the literal brush-off, yanking his hands back and straightening as Zephyr stood 'cause, like, he totally hadn't realised he was even touching the big guy. Watching the imp bury herself pretty much knee deep in the bag of chocolate had distracted him from saying anything he would have regretted, though, but, like, he was starting to see why they were called imp dragons, for sers. Little Derry got into more trouble in two seconds than Kiel had in his whole life, and that was, like, saying something!

“Aw, but, like, I brought him an apple, see?” Kiel pouted, grabbing the apple through the fabric of his pocket and wiggling it against his leg. “He likes them, right? I was gonna bring a cow but, like, well first I didn't know where to get one and, well, you know, it woulda looked kinda weird.”

“Well, duh, no way I'm fighting in, like, my best gear, you know? Well, it's not my best gear, but, you know. I have, like, a jogging suit. That's cool right, 'cause, like - Holy incoming!”

Kiel ducked behind Zephyr, using the bigger 'Varian as a shield as several tons of green and mustard came their way, his survival instinct kicking in big time. Even so, it was overshadowed by curiosity and he crowded in against Zeph's back, clutching at his shirt and peering around the Rutilus' biceps. “Oh, man,” he breathed, watching the dragon's fire display like a kid watching his first fireworks. Ecstatic, he stepped out from behind his boss to flap his arms at the dragon. “That. Was. AWESOME!”

Zephyr glared at the dragon. He didn't have time to go get a new vest if Kiel shredded this on with the death grip his was performing on it. He also didn't have time for this fan fare. It was the reason that village in the foothills had forbidden the pair to go back again. Stupid dragons burning down barns full of food. “Really, Slythe?” he said, ignoring Kiel's ecstatic flailing. He just wanted to get to the gym and start training. It had been too long since he'd had a legitimate work out. Of course he had his spars with Dazadi every now and again, but they were more battles than training. Fighting with Kiel in a Rutilus facility was exactly what Zephyr was needing right now.

“You can ogle him later, daylight's burning in Nirim.” Zephyr said, grabbing the back of Kiel's shirt in the same back that held his sparring sorts. “Let's go, get on,” he ordered the boy as he shoved him toward the scaly beast. Derina had already abandoned the bag of chocolate in Zephyr's hand and was now clinging to Slythe's face, covering it in chocolate as well. “Sysy!” she squealed, once again repeating her syllables instead of using real terms. Tossing the torn bag haphazardly at the waste bin next to the bench he'd been sitting on, Zephyr didn't check to make sure it had gotten in before moving to hoist himself onto the back of his Dragon. As long as he didn't vomit on the ride there, they'd be okay.

Slythe pouted and preened simultaneously. He liked this Kiel boy already. Which was more than he could say for Zephyr. He trusted the brute, but Slythe wasn't sure he'd ever actually like him. Still, both of the men were right. Slythe knew why he was here and they didn't have time to waste, but his acrobatics had been awesome. “Fine,” he said to Zephyr telepathically as he laid down in the grass. He'd get his revenge by flying them down into Nirim. Oh yes, that would be fun.

Suddenly that little imp brat Derina was one his face. “Get her off of me! Oh that's disgusting!” he roared in the Draconic tongue. The miniature mater-breather soon poofed to Zephyr's hair, crying about the Scare that Slythe had induced. “Oh boohoo, be a dragon already,” he hissed back to her, flicking his tail a bit as the overly muscular dolt climbed onto his back. “Well what're you waiting for, hurry up,” he said to the runt, flicking his tail to emphasize his impatience.

“Hey, hey, watch the shirt, dude!” Flapping a hand ineffectually at Zeph, Kiel about swallowed his tongue as he was shoved forward. Even knowing his boss was in a hurry, Kiel had time to turn and quite deliberately stick his tongue out before lamenting to Slythe, “A brute, he's a brute.” Probably not the best of ideas to diss his boss, especially, like, since he was being so nice and generous, but Kiel figured if he hadn't beaten the snot out of him by now, he wasn't likely to.

Better get a move on, though, like, just in case.

Slythe's reaction to having a chocolate-covered imp on his face was kind of expected, but even though Kiel had past experience with the beasts, he was still giddy over it. Imagine! Dragons, right here in front of him! And not bonded with his family, so not, like, obligated to talk to him. Slythe was acknowledging him because he felt like it and that, like, felt so good.

“Well what're you waiting for, hurry up.”

“Oh, oh! Haha, this is so awesome, man, for sers,” Kiel crowed, watching the dragon's tail move as he stepped forward to grab at Zeph's leg for leverage. “Hey, boss, gimme a leg up? Hey, hey, can I sit up front?” Man, oh, man, when was he getting his dragon?

“Dammit, Derina!” he shouted as she thoroughly coated his hair in chocolate. Now Zephyr was going to have to take a shower before they sparred and after, which meant they were already losing time. The men at the dojo they were renting were pretty lax, but still it was a business, and a 'vari business at that. It would probably cost Zephyr a bundle to extend their time-slot. It wasn't like Zephyr could afford it... but he didn't like giving away his money for no reason.

“Hey, boss, gimme a leg up? Hey, hey, can I sit up front?”

Blasted kid being so short. Not that it had really been much of an issue until now. He made up what he lacked in stature and strength with his speed, even being able to best Zephyr when he really wanted to. The kid was definitely coming along with his training, but hopefully after today he'd not train with Vander anymore. Sighing, Zephyr reached down and locked grips with the boy, pulling him up behind him. “No, you can't ride in front,” he said after the boy was already straddling the lizard. Making sure the kid had a solid grip around Zephyr's abdomen, Zephyr breathed warily. “Okay, let's go Slythe,” he said, holding on to both the dragon and his bag as best he could. “Let's take it easy this time, alright?” he asked as the group suddenly disappeared from the park.
