Easy Overall

If you successfully complete all ten easy challenges, you can earn $1000 and 100 karma points, plus a shiny new trophy.

Hard Overall

If you successfully complete all ten hard challenges, you can earn $2500 and 250 karma points, plus an even shinier new trophy!

Mix and Match

If you find that some of the harder challenges are more than you have time for, but don't want to stick with easy all the time, feel free to mix and match. ^__^ There's a special trophy for mix-and-matchers and depending on the ratio of your easy/hard wins, you can earn between $1500 and $2000 as well as 150-200 karma points. For example, if you successfully completed 6 easy and 4 hard challenges, you'd win $1500 and 150 karma points, whereas if you won 6 hard and 4 easy, you'd win $2000 and 200 karma points.

Deadlines

The first challenge will be posted on August 1st and subsequent challenges will be posted every three days (give or take a few hours) after that throughout the whole of August. However, just because the challenges are posted every three days doesn't mean you have only a few days to finish them - you have the whole of August to submit your entries!

The Aides will be reviewing submissions throughout August as they're posted and will be keeping track of who's done what but awards won't be given out until after the 31st of August, when we'll tot up everyone's successes and hand out the cash, karma and trophies. ^-^

Remember, post your submissions on the appropriate challenge thread, don't PM them to anyone or post them haphazardly. Additionally, any submission that makes us go look for your entry post will be ignored, it's easy enough to find the direct link. ^__~

What do you see?

Our first challenge begins with the simplest of the five senses, sight. Normal posts tend to focus only on the posting character and what they are actively doing. Your challenge is to focus on what other characters are doing and what you see around you.

Some examples are:

* A dog littering the sidewalk,
* The sun starting to set
* A Dragon walking past you shrugging into a coat

Remember to react to things your roleplay partner has done as well. Are they standing, shuffling their feet, or are they sitting down? Did they blow you a kiss or flutter their eyelashes? Even if your character is ignorant or unaware of the things going on around them, you still need to react to them as a roleplayer and say that your character doesn't notice those things.

Submission Requirements

Easy Level:

Meet the post requirements for the forum you're posting in and add 100 words about the things your character can see.

By this we mean that if you post in the market, an area that requires a minimum of 100 words per post, your challenge post should be at least 200 words in length. If you post in an area like the Ao Coast which requires 200 words per post, then your challenge post should be at least 300 words in length.

Hard:

Double the post requirements of the forum you post in with at least 100 words of it related to the things your character can see.

This means that if you post in the market, your challenge post should be at least 200 words in length, while a post in the Ao Coast should be a minimum of 400 words.

Interesting challenge; I copied the post to Word and counted all the elements that had to do with the assignment. In total there were 843 words of which 359 are about "sight" so I think that counts as Hard?

I've been told my instructions aren't very clear on how to link us to your exact posts. As it's vital that we get a link directly to your post, instead of just a thread that might be three or ten pages long, I decided to try and clear some things up. ^__^

Esther and Salem - please check your links. I thought I'd fixed Castalia's entry link but I'm not so sure now, and Salem's links to an archived thread, so we don't want you to lose out by accidentally linking to the wrong posts. I fear I explained things badly. u_u

OK so first of all, make your post. lol. Once your post has been submitted, look for the Post # link above your text on the right hand side.



The number (in the screenie, the number is #1) will depend on your post's placement in the thread. For instance, my screenie is the first post of this thread, so it's Post #1. Castalia's is Post #2, and Salem's is Post #3. You need to click on the number (circled in red).

You'll then get a popup (assuming they aren't disabled on EF). You need to copy the link from that popup. It will look something like http://faroah.com/in...p...ost&p=16788.

I've edited the first post, so that all we require from you in your entry posts is the level of the challenge you're entering for, and the full link you'll get from your popup, eg. http://faroah.com/in...p...ost&p=16788

What do you hear?

Our second challenge asks you to use the sense of hearing to lengthen your posts. Did someone just speak to you? Shout in your ear? Are you in the city, the forest, the jungle? What are the sounds in the background? The foreground? Everyone (unless they are deaf) can hear something at all times.

Our senses affect our lives daily, why should it be any different with your character? Does your character have issues with a cold or allergies? Did they pass a fledgling demon? Are they in a rose garden? What can they smell around them? This fourth Summer Camp challenge requires you to use the sense of smell to describe your surroundings.

Everyone reacts differently to the events and people in their life, from being lonely to jumping for joy. What does your character feel about the people around them? How do they feel when something happens to them? Do they express those feelings in any way, or do they try to contain them? Our sixth challenge asks you to expose your character's emotions and help us to understand them better.

Focus on the Mundane

Our seventh Summer Camp challenge is to post even when there's seemingly nothing to post about. Characters are much more rounded and three-dimensional if they aren't only fighting or doing the things we as readers deem interesting. They have 'off-screen' lives that, were we to see them, would make them more realistic and easier to sympathise with. Let us see them brush their teeth once in a while, or get up with 'bed head'. Let us see them deal with the mundane consequences of a fight, such as needing to buy new clothes when they've been ripped to shreds by a wolf, or the scuffed knees that come from being thrown bodily across the arena. Let us see the real person beneath the character.

Submission Requirements

Easy Level:

Make two separate posts that meet the post requirements for the forum you're posting in. Add 50 words to each post that focus on everyday things such as using the restroom, creating a meal or even doing household chores.

By 'using the restroom' we don't mean the more graphic aspects of toileting, thank you, but the more mundane tasks such as brushing hair, teeth and so on.

Hard:

Make two separate posts that double the post requirements of the forum you post in, each with an extra 50 words that focus on the mundane.
