Stepping out of the rowdy tavern, scowling as she narrowly missed her censored being slapped by a drunk dragon, Kaida crossed her arms over her chest. There was a reason she was no longer living in the heart of Elysia, but within Valhalla. And this was damn sure one of them. Danae had dumped her off here, not wanting her to leave, but not wanting her to stay within his palace. She'd not known she was wandering into another realm when she passed through the Elysian portal, but now that she was here, there was no turning back. She'd have to stay until she gained the trust to leave, but Kaida knew that it wouldn't happen how the god wanted it to. Of all the people to wander into his realm, she was both the best and the worst. The best, seeing as her distaste for Xanth gave her props, and she'd not cause havoc for him in that sense. The worst because she wasn't like some love struck power hungry fool. She would do what she wanted, when she wanted, and he'd have to deal with it. Strike her down, or ignore her completely, she wasn't about to be stuck here without any hope to go back to Valhalla.

Clenching her jaw as she looked over the shoulder at the pub/tavern she just walked from, she made a silent vow to allow the man time to touch her body when she returned. He'd find his arm broken, and blood spewing from his nose. Perhaps then they would understand, she was no censored push over. They hadn't paid her much attention, not knowing she didn't belong here, but Kaida didn't suspect that would last long. Eventually some drunken man would paw at her, and cause her to rip into them, her claws doing the most damage. Until then however, she wouldn't give them the satisfaction of knowing she was Elysian. Of course, only Elysian by blood.

Finding herself soon upon the steps of Danae's temple, her eyes wandered to the harpies guarding the monstrous building. Their claws were larger than hers could ever be, but she had weapons of her own. Ignoring them, but preparing to take them down should they attack, Kaida made her way up the stairs. She wanted to see more of this god, and hell if she'd be stopped.

Harpies were patient creatures. They had to be, guarding a god who insisted that they be silent while on duty as well as put up with his many sexual advances. Created for the very purpose of serving Danae in this manner, they had known nothing else and were quite content to do his bidding. Invasions and attacks on the temple were rare. If they thought on it, they would find it surprising that attacks happened at all given that Danae could wipe attackers from existence with a single thought yet still there was the occasional irate villager who lost his or temper and attacked without thought. They never survived to tell the tale or apologise.

In fact, some of the more intelligent harpies often wondered why Danae insisted on a force of guards when he could easily defend himself. Their conclusion was inevitably that a) he was simply too lazy to guard his own lascivious back, and b) he enjoyed the sight of scantily-clad females too much to release them from their service.

As a unit they did not see much action at all and of those the guards at the door Kaida tried to enter were the most experienced having more practise than most in turning away visitors when Danae refused to take an audience. Neither had been on duty during Kaida's last visit, however, and even if they had she had been teleported directly in and out of the temple so they would not have seen her anyway. Regardless, they did their job, golden spears crossing together to bar Kaida's path. The harpies did not say a word, merely staring straight ahead silently. Though they had been fully trained, of course, they were not expecting trouble and assumed she was just another human villager come to pray or beg.

Stopping as the guards golden spears crossed before her, Kaida smiled, closing her eyes. Shaking her head slightly, she stood perfectly still, her ears shifting inwardly so that she could hear every flicker of movement the two gave. She had no intention of killing them, as she was sure Danae would have her head, but if either tired anything on her, she'd be standing over their corpses with a puddle of blood seeping toward her feet. Moving her hands slightly so that she could quickly take hold of her daggers, she opened her eyes slightly, looking dead ahead.

Speaking quite forcefully, she spoke with a taint to her tone that dripped venom. "Either move your sticks out of my way, or ill be having bird-ca-bob for dinner." Kaida's chest heaved slightly as she found herself anxiously awaiting an attack, ready to throw down with the mutant birds before her. She'd seen them before, having had time to admire the temple. They were large but she could be bigger. Although they had talons, and wings attached to their arms, they were still breakable. Finding herself curious what potions could be made from these creatures, especially since they didn't exist in Elysia, Kaida contemplated egging them on just so she could kill one of them. If it was out of defense, surely Danae couldn't be to angered.

Smirking to herself, her thoughts wicked, she waited silently for the wretched beasts to move.

The harpy guards were not impressed by Kaida's threat. As far as they knew, she was mortal and just as weak as the humans of the village who looked just like her. She had the look of a fighter but was not obviously powerful and they had no reason to doubt their own abilities against her.

As the guard on the right stepped forward into Kaida's personal space, the other moved behind her to cover both sides of the door, her spear held between both hands across her chest. Voice deep and sultry, the first spoke quietly but firmly, "Dananka sees no one today. Come back tomorrow." It was not the first time they had turned visitors away and would not be the last. Danae was notoriously fickle and had quite frequently made promises only to break them without a thought. His harpies did not comment on his behaviour, merely kept the consequences out of his view - such as angered worshippers who had expected to see him.

It's all it took. Getting into her personal space as asking to be injured. Kaida was no claustrophobic, but she'd not stand idly by and allow others to walk on her like the harpy before her was attempting to do. If this was, any other realm, and if this thing had any other brains that to serve a god, Kaida would be tempted to try and recruit it into her tribe. But unlike those of Elysia, these things didn't seem to have identities, no personality, no individuality. In fact, they seemed more creature like than human. A quality that was only meant for killing.

Not caring if the beings before her could slash her in two, she'd been up against worse, and would come out the victor, even if she hung on to life by a strand. Without saying a word, Kaida reached forward with the speed of a wolf, her fingers aiming to curl around the harpies spear between its hands. If she was able to take hold of it, she'd jerk it down with a hard quick motion, bringing the elbow of her other arm up quickly to jab into the beasts neck and jaw, hopefully rendering it breathless or stunned long enough to pull out her dagger and slit the woman-things throat. If she underestimated the creature's strength, at least she'd have hope of removing the weapon from her.

Ready for anything, including the harpy standing directly behind the other, she'd greet its attacks with ones of her own, using whatever spear she could wield.

It was over in a flash. The harpies really stood no chance, far too complacent in their defense of a god who could so easily defend himself, and against people who truly posed no threat.

In the blink of an eye, one harpy was down with her hands clutched to her throat, her spear stolen and her eyes large with shock as her comrade jerked forward in a belated attempt to save her, only to slam into an invisible wall.

Clap.

The sound of palm striking palm reverberated through the air from behind Kaida, an odd sound in the middle of a fight.

Clap.

Again, a hollow, almost tinny sound that made the harpies wince.

Clap. Clap.

Sardonic, droll amusement, empty applause. The harpy still on her feet backed up, bent almost double in supplication. The one on the ground clutching her throat held out a bloody hand in silent plea.

"'Tis not often my Harpy are so easily disarmed." Danae's voice was effeminate as he circled Kaida, eyeing her with her lusty gleam in his pale blue eyes. Ignoring the guards, uncaring that one was dying at his feet, he waved a hand dismissively and turned his back on the pair. Blood trailed as the wounded harpy was dragged off by her companion, away around the palace rather than in through the main entrance. Not for them the luxury of the lobby even if the extra time would cost the guard her life.

"You have promise, Kaida Tanili," Danae told the Therian, a cruel smile playing on his lips. He had been suspicious of her to date and still was, in truth, but her viciousness and lack of compassion proved to him, if nothing else, that she would not have curried Xanthorra's favour. Xanth was too much of a goody-goody to appreciate Kaida's finer points.

"Come, my dear, we have much to... discuss." Placing a kid-gloved hand against the small of her back, he turned her toward the palace, teleporting midstep to his bedchambers.

OOC: Dananka and Kaida have left the thread - assuming the GM is okay by Dora. XD
