Kade's eyes closed as her soft voice filled the air. He didn't want things to end this way. He didn't want to even be in this situation to begin with. They were made for each other, thats was proven by the challenge they had taken and succeeded. But with death on in his past... it changed things. The world changed, destiny changed. Maybe... they were life mates at one point. Maybe they had meant to be, belonged to one another. But then he died. And he took all their dreams and wishes with him. He'd been gone, and the fact that he'd died had effected Dazadi. She'd been tortured, hardened by his death. And although it was nothing less than a miracle how he was able to be brought back... somewhere, deep inside him, Kade knew he was fighting for a life that had already passed him by. By his death... he'd broken destiny's design. What once was, no longer is. He had been Dazadi's life mate, yes. But then he died. They'd thought they'd proven their connection by defeating a challenge most others could not, but it hardly was fair, as they both knew everything about the other. They could have been great life mates... but something was wrong. She was meant to feel him, and he her, but the pain she felt when he transformed. That wasn't right. The need he had to endanger his life constantly, just to prevent herself from a non lethal wound... that wasn't right either. In the past, he never would have even thought about that. He knew Dazadi could handle herself. He'd seen it multiple times. But now... he couldn't. He just couldn't.
Wincing as Dazadi's hand brush his hair from his eyes, he slowly looked at her. Shaking his head softly at what she said, his jaw clenched. She didn't seem to understand what he now did. And hell... he didn't want to tell her. He could be wrong... but somehow, he didn't think so. Living a lie with Dazadi, was better than living the truth without. Closing his eyes once more as she kissed his cheek, his heart lurched at her proclamation of love. Sinking further into himself the moment Dazadi ported out of the arena, a tear slid down Kade's cheek. He loved her, with everything he had. He adored her, and feared for her. He didn't want her to die like he had. And because of that, he was forced to see this... stale truth. Forced to deal with it on his own. Xanth help him if Dazadi found out. She couldn't find out though. He wouldn't let her.
Beside himself with self pity and grief, the words of the red dragon behind him sunk in rather quickly. He'd not been paying attention to the outbursts, his mind having been invested in more important thoughts, but with nothing else to loose, and everything on the line, the strangers last words slapped Kade across the face with enough force to make his eyes snap open. Jaw clenched so tightly a tooth could easily break, Kade roared in outrage, his body bursting around him as it expanded into black scaly flesh. Pain erupted through him like he'd never felt before, but it didn't stop him. He was furious, and everything that haunted his mind would be spewed forth in a pillar of fire. Roaring into the air, fire bursting out with such intensity heat waves could be felt around the arena, Kade's body was fully transformed in a matter of seconds. Whipping his body around, Kade aimed his tail at the man's body, an attempt to knock him directly into the rink. Following through with his motions, Kade whirled around, his teeth baring down on the mans body. He was aiming to bite the censored in half, and damned if his dragon instincts weren't getting the better of him. Should he manage to get a hold of the beast who dared call himself a man, he'd eat him alive.
