The small shape didnt remember much, it wasnt thinking anything right now...it was dreaming. Its small shape jostled around in the wooden cage on the back of the cart, the tranqualizer in it was keeping it nice and sedated for the ride to wherever the poachers were taking it. It was having happy dreams of hunting for prey around the old volcanoes in the dusky mountains and its leg was twitching happilly as it dreamed of chasing after prey. Looking at the shape one would find it immensly cute, nothing set it aside from a normal red fox, nothing too apprent now at least.

As the poacher's cart sped down the hills a large covered rut caught the edge of one of the wheels. The cage holding the Fenaro, already on edge from its kicking, fell silently onto the hill rolling a little ways down. The sound and the loss of the one cage went completley unnoticed by the poacher as he sped away. The fall however, did not go unnoticed by the Fenaro, however sedated it had been.

It blinkingly opened its eyes, stretching its legs out in a yawn and looked around. Its burning ember of an eye looked and saw something, incredibaly unfamiliar to it....and a very unpleasent one. He didnt recognize anything, where was its home, where were its hunting grounds? It was so cold here, it hurt the poor thing. It walked a bit up and down the hill looking for something, hoping he wasnt far off...but nothing. The Fenaro started crying parts of its fur bursting into flame as it did so, slowly it curled itself into a ball to hold its warmth.

It was hoping this was all just a dream and it would wake up in its nice hot home...if not it didnt want to think of what would happen.

------==~*~==------

The wind whipped around the higher parts of the duskie mountains, cold and brutal. Snow was not falling, but it was drifiting and blowing from place to place in the grasp of the wind. In this beautiful climate there was one small shape, curled up in a tight red ball, that did not find it beautiful at all.

A loud noise, in between a howl and a cry, burst from the mountains being carried on the winds to haunt the higher and lower places. The noise came from this tight red ball, from a distance it would look like a red fox, were its fur not randomly bursting into flame while it cried. The Fenaro opened its eyes and lifted its head sllighty, shivering in the brutal cold it was so not used to. It looked around the area, what was this white stuff that burned at it so harshly, where were the lovely ash fields and the fires from under the earth.

It knew it needed to get warm, but there was nowhere here it recognized as giving warmth. Its small embers of eyes looked around trying to find someplace, anyplace, it could sit for shelter. It's eyes caught on a small rocky outcropping that sheltered a small patch of land underneath it, a makeshift cave. The Fenaro uncurled and as the cold hit it full force it cried out again, sending a haunting howl across the mountains. Its fur burst into flames as it ran full speed across the snowy landscape to get to the rock cave.

Its intense heat created a path of melted snow in its wake until it finally lay down to rest in the cave, its fur still burning brightly.

It was too cold however, its heat couldnt protect it for long, it cried out again at the top of its voice. Someone, something, anything, please take it from this horrible place.

Daz had a lot of pent-up violence waiting for a release but no one to take it out on. She'd almost tracked down Olly intent on sparring with him or his trainees, but she knew damn well he'd take one look at her and refuse to let her loose on his kids. Or himself, for that matter. He could still kick her ass clear to the coast but with her Aide powers, and her total lack of desire to hold back right now, she'd do him some major damage too. Olly was smart enough to avoid a fight he couldn't outright win. censored.

She'd skulked around the palace for a bit but then a nervous-looking guard came up to her, peering out from behind a shield, to tell her in a squeaky stammer that she was frightening the children. He'd run back to his squad with a black eye but he won out when Daz heard a toddler crying to her mommy that the scary lady was going to eat them.

Having a personal life sucked big time. She didn't have a clue what the hell was going on with Kade, and now Wolf was siding with that pansy girlfriend of his. It was a complete recipe for disaster, and Daz could feel herself slipping into the kind of insanity she'd thought long gone. She'd been so sure she was over that. Kade and Wolf had kept her grounded, even when they were fighting, but now... She just didn't know how to fix this. She had needs that contradicted Kade's and she couldn't see a way to compromise. Unable to handle that kind of confusion or emotion, she just... she didn't want to be sane because sanity meant dealing with things she'd really rather not touch with a bargepole.

Sighing, Daz glared at the steamy cloud that puffed out of her mouth as her feet moved one in front of the other. Her wings were spread for balance but for once, she'd chosen to walk. Flight was exhilerating rather than soothing, and she didn't feel she deserved that kind of excitement right now. She needed to pull herself out of this slide and get her head together. There had to be a way to give them both what they needed.

The cold air was wonderful but more than even she could enjoy without a jacket, which she wrapped tighter around herself with her arms around her waist. Her hair was wet from the light snow, melted snowflakes sparkling on her jacket which, despite her penchant for dark colours, was a light beige sheepskin. As much as she liked to be cold, she wasn't stupid enough to give herself hypothermia. Besides, there was something almost comforting about huddling into the nice, warm, soft fabric.

An odd cry reached her ears and Daz stopped to glance up, her body tensing as she scanned the horizon. She almost didn't see the firefox or its hiding place but on her second scan she noticed the odd flickering, as if from a fire, and tracked a path melted through the snow down the mountainside for a ways. Assuming it to be a feanaro from the few clues she'd seen, and curious as to why it was so far out from its natural habitat in freezing temperatures, Daz loosened her arm from her waist and stepped forward lightly, one hand reaching under the bottom of her coat to retrieve the dagger sheathed on her hip - just in case her assumptions were wrong.

She almost hoped she'd have to kill something, but as she drew nearer and got a better glimpse of the creature, she realised with a soft curse that there was no real danger. The firefox was small and huddled up tight against the cold, reminding her - save for the way it burst into flame every so often - of Piper's fox. Daz couldn't even feel vindictive the way she wanted to, even she wasn't that antisocial, or she'd flatten the little critter just for the resemblance. Instead...

"Hey..." She was aiming for friendly, maybe even soothing, but her voice came out hoarse instead. It looked so damned lonely and vulnerable. Suddenly it reminded her of herself and instead of making Daz scowl, it made her soften. "C'mere, little guy. We should get you home before you turn into ol' Frosty."

The firefox had almost fallen into a deadly sleep and its flames had no effect anymore. It couldn't register the creak of boots in the snow, unable to open its eyes against the chill. When it heard the voice, it tried to move but the feanaro's self-preservation instincts were buried under sheets of ice.

It managed to crack open its eyes a little to see a humanoid that looked too much like the poachers that had stolen it from its home. It whimpered and tried to back away but the cold was just too much for the poor little thing. Cornered, it used the last of its energies to snarl at the humanoid in warning, so instinctively afraid that it couldn't see she was trying to help. If she managed to capture the firefox, it would immediately try to scratch and claw its way free. burning her as it struggled, but the feanaro was so cold now its efforts would most likely be in vain.

Dazadi arched an eyebrow at the firefox when it snarled but she wasn't afraid of it. Hell, it was too damned cute to be intimidating. Even the snarl was cute, so she reached out and grabbed the critter, not bothering to go slow because she knew that would only make it try to run away.

The second she set her hands on it, however, it burst into flame. Dazadi, accustomed to injuries and the pain they caused, nevertheless screamed at the top of her lungs: "Ow, gods-dammit, you little runt!" To which it replied by scratching and clawing at her as if the nine lords of the nine hells were chasing it, even as her scream continued to echo across the mountainside.

She almost dropped him several times, struggling to bring the critter to her chest so she could immobilise it. "I'm trying to perform a rescue here, you little monstrosity," she grunted, cursing the day it was born under her breath. "Just... hold... still!"

OOC: I think the GM's okay because of the setup of the ONPC post. ^^

The scream, already piercing and shocking, reverberated off the mountains in a way that made it seem much more frightening, alarming the firefox into trying ever harder to break free. It almost saw its freedom several times but his captor had the strength of an ox and wasn't particularly gentle in using it. In fact, the feanaro's squirming body was getting squelched in ways it really didn't enjoy.

And then the woman snapped, her voice scolding as she said words the firefox couldn't understand but clearly signified the end of her patience, at least as far as the feanaro was concerned. It whimpered and froze, trying to curl up into a ball, completely exhausted. Panting in fear and shock, it finally stilled and waited for its fate.

Finally. Finally the damnable creature was still. As it froze in her arms, panting desperately, Daz took a moment to catch her own breath too. "You know, for a little thing, you're pretty gods-damned strong," she groused at it, huffing slightly as she glanced at the scratches up her arms and across her torso that were already healing.

She might have been censored at the critter for the damage but she couldn't dredge up enough energy. During the feanaro's outburst, she'd begun to feel a swell of emotion but it was gone now it was quiet, as if it had never been.

Her voice quiet and melancholic, Daz brought the firefox into the curve of her arm and said, "Let's get you home," and faded from view.

They reappeared in the sweltering innards of a volcano, only far enough in to revive the firefox quickly and hopefully prevent it from straying from its home again. Daz had no idea what had happened to the creature but it hadn't travelled as far as it had under its own steam; it couldn't have survived that long. Her first thought was that it had been someone's pet and they had neglected it but other possibilities ran through her mind. Not that she cared, at all, as long as the creature learned its lesson and stayed where it was warm and safe.

Wary of the creature's reaction once the heat revived it, Daz didn't hesitate to bend and put it down on the ground. The second it was released, she backed off and sighed. "Do me a favour and stay in the volcano, you lemming. I don't want to have to come rescue you again." Not expecting a reply, she turned on her heel and teleported back to chill of the mountains.

OOC: Daz has left the thread.
