'Monic watched the growing confusion and enjoyed it immensely. His shoulder propped against a reinforcing girder, careful not to to let his clean shirt touch the dirty cavern wall. His hands dug deep in either pocket and a grin on his face, he relaxed and enjoyed the fruit of his labor.
The signs themselves had been easy enough to find if you knew where to look. "Do not enter!" they read, with a smaller script below reading, "Cave ahead is malfunctioned or under repair." Underneath an arrow pointed towards the suggested detour route. He watched as a rat (which he knew by looks, but not by name) looked up to the sign, and then went left as the arrow suggested. A small chuckle came to his lips as he waited on the young rat to return.
Loving a good prank, Ocmonic had woke up early this morning, even earlier than the shopkeepers would be getting up. He sneaked into the storage cubby and 'borrowed' a few of these seldom needed signs. Now, with them placed strategically among the branching caverns, anyone needing to leave this morning were having a hard time finding their way out. A few minutes passed before the rat crossed the cavern. This time headed down the right passage. This one also would send him back.
A man he recognized as a shopkeeper passed, coming from the closed off sections. "Whatsit? construction or somthin'?" he said as he passed by. He like several other seemed to be heading to Drystan Black to complain. With any luck he would still be in bed sleeping.
'Monics grin quickly changed to confusion, but strictly for the mans benefit. "I couldn't get out either. I should complain." His grin reappeared as the man went out of sight. He saw how the mans pace quickened when he mentioned complaining. But if he didn't want to get caught red handed he had better get out of sight.
He quickly but calmly strode towards the first sign, collecting it while making sure no one saw him. He quietly collected all the signs but the last one. As he approached it, he noticed someone approaching. Ducking into the nearest passageway, he hoped not to be seen. From behind him he heard the sound of tiny mouse tracks as the rat was finally making his way back. He sighed quiet relief when the rat turned off before reaching him.
He knew it was luck, but he couldn't help but take credit. "I'm just too good at this." he said quietly, turning to collect the final sign. He made his way back towards the storage cubby, hoping not to get caught.
