Alexshire

Alexshire is a city-state straddling the River Cora. It is made up of the City of Alexandria, a couple of hamlets, and 300 square miles of farmland. The rich district (known as New Alexandria) houses some 5,000 of the city's wealthiest merchants and officials, and was built around Elysia's main portal.

She needed to relax. But, instead, the Anyelos was irritated. Quite irritated. She sat in her chair, her posture semi-formal -- her back was against the back of the chair, but her hands were folded neatly in her lap, and her ankles were crossed. She held her head with her face facing forward, and she wore no expression. The woman glanced around with her sharp amethyst eyes. She narrowed them slightly to express her disapproval of a couple in front of her who were quarreling. Evangeline quickly focused her attention onto something else for the moment -- she did not want to yell at the pair in public. She affixed her eyes onto the flowers in the center of the table. Eva slowly lifted a hand, stroking the petals and inhaling the fragrant scent. She tried her best only to focus on the flowers in front of her, and not think about --Evangeline quickly lowered her head and examined her light pink dress. She moved her legs a bit, feeling the edges of the material halfway down her calves. She toyed with the long sleeves of the soft clothing. As a waitress passed by, she called out softly, automatically, "Excuse me."The waitress turned, smiling brightly. "Yes?"Oh, no. It would be quite rude if I complained to this woman ... Thinking quickly, she replied, "May I please order a vanilla sundae?" The woman smiled at the waitress, hoping to cover up her moment of indecision. She watched the waitress walk away with a surprised nod, then turned back to distracting herself from the fight in front of her, which had escalated to yelling. When the waitress returned with her food, Evangeline inclined her head in thanks. She moved her hair behind her shoulders, then began eating, taking deliberate care not to make a mess. She daintily wiped her mouth, and concentrated on eating the sundae, very stiff and formal. Then Eva stopped, leaning back and clenching her fists under the table. "Excuse me ..." she breathed, rubbing the onyx on her left glove with her right hand. She glared at the two with unveiled irritation, her face hard.Someone ... please, help me!

The air in New Alexandria felt rather cool, a soft breeze blowing through the plaza with the faintest of whistles. This sound could not be heard by even the sharpest of ears, however, as the marketplace seemed filled to the brim with chattering shoppers. The noise of conversation echoed ever so slightly off the walls of shops, projecting the voices even more. What a busy day! Perhaps it was always as ridiculous as this. At least the sun was shining, with only a few clouds dotting the powder blue sky.

"I'm going to get lost in this crowd," muttered a young Therian bitterly as she forced her way through the massive gathering of people. Her emerald eyes focused straight ahead as she tried to move forward, but with each avoided collision, and each small but necessary detour to avoid dense groups, Jenna Elk ended up turning around completely. Of course, she didn't notice this at first; not until she found herself standing in front of the same cafe she had seen when she first got here. Blinking in confusion, she slowed to a stop and glanced over her shoulder. A lot of people were heading her way, so she figured she must have unconsciously followed the flow of traffic. Dammit! Now she would have to try and get through again... after sitting down for a minute. Her short legs couldn't take any more attempts at travel; and besides, she couldn't remember where she had wanted to go anymore anyway.

Thus, the shapeshifter slipped into the cafe to find a place to rest. She was greeted by a great amount of mahogany, the sweet smell of baking and an even more annoying sound than that of a crowd- arguing.

Jenna didn't want to go back outside to deal with the immense amount of people, but there was no way she was going to allow a quarrell to interrupt her attempt at relaxation. Frowning, she scanned the room for the source of the racket: a couple, of course, just a few tables down from the entrance. By the looks of it, Jenna wasn't the only one bothered by the two- a female Anyeli at the table in front of them appeared to be glaring at the nuisances. Maybe I'll do her a favour...

Tucking her hands into the pockets of her coat, the Therian strided across the room, purposefully passing the arguing couple. As she did, Jenna turned her head to narrow her eyes at them, throwing in a single remark: "Get a room, will you?"

She then tore her attention away and walked on, not really bothering to listen and see if her attempt worked. If it didn't, she would leave soon enough... for now, though, Jenna needed to sit. Plopping down at the table beside the Anyeli, the Therian rested her head in her hands and stared blankly at the colourful arrangement of flowers in front of her.

The Anyelos was surprised when another woman -- she wasn't quite sure what species -- passed by the pair in front of her, admonishing them. A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Evangeline was amused, to say the least, at the embarrassed expression on the couple's faces when they looked around to see many people hastily looking away. She watched the two slink away, out of the cafe, with red faces and sheepish expressions. The Anyelos looked rather satisfied. There went the obstruction of her relaxed mood. She felt ... mellow. Evangeline found herself smiling contentedly -- something that really didn't happen often -- as she ate her vanilla sundae and breathed in the pleasant aromas of the Cafe. A belated thought occurred to her as she realized that the ... Therian? ... was seated beside her. Oh, my. How rude of me -- I did not properly show my gratitude towards that woman! Even her thoughts, it seemed, were formal.

The woman called a waitress over, giving her $3. Evangeline then stood, walking over to Jenna's table, stopping on the opposite side of the Therian."May I sit here?" she asked politely. Without waiting for an answer, which was uncommonly rude for her ( but she was quite interested in this woman, and more than a bit grateful ) she placed her sundae on the table, opposite Jenna, and smoothing pulled out the chair, sitting in it. "I thank you for silencing the pair that were fighting," she said, bowing her head in a formal manner. Evangeline smiled. "I am Evangeline Schelle, an Anyelos." Evangeline introduced herself while indicating the gray wings on her back. "If I may ask, who are you?" Evangeline nearly forgot her manners in her interest. She had not met that many people outside of her species in her small village in the Dusky Mountains -- it was rather far from the Cloud Palace, after all, and her family forbade her from going there and becoming influenced by the Apalos/Skotados war, even if it was supposed to be a sanctuary.

After another moment of thought, she added, "I am in your debt for preventing me from becoming angry -- if you had not stopped the two, I do not know what I would have done." Evangeline wondered if her thanks was a bit too much, and if she should have said that, if she tried to intervene, she would have attacked them? The female was lost in her thoughts for a moment, then turned half of her attention back on Jenna. The other half was also on the flowers on the middle of the table. She stroked the petals, feeling the soft fuzziness on the surface, and running her finger on the veins that ran through the leaves. Hmm. I honestly hope she will forgive my intrusion. Evangeline disliked her bad habit -- acting before she thought it through, and thinking it through after she had acted.

"May I sit here?"

Jenna glanced up in surprise to see the Anyelos from the table adjacent was now standing in front of her. The Therian opened her mouth to turn the angel away, but the girl sat down before she could speak. Frowning, Jenna narrowed her eyes at Evangeline. Deciding not to snap at the Anyelos, however, the shape-shifter turned her attention to the sundae. What remained of it looked delicious, and occupied Jenna's thoughts until Evangeline spoke again. This time, the angel spoke politely and gratefully, thanking the Therian for breaking up the fight. As Evangeline spoke, Jenna glanced over at the table where the couple had been sitting. So they were gone... She couldn't help but smirk triumphantly at her success.

"If I may ask, who are you?"

Jenna's green gaze turned back to Evangeline as she spoke the question. Feeling a bit embarrassed as she had not been paying any attention to the Anyelos, the shape-shifter did not answer right away, as if pretending that she still wasn't listening. Maybe the angel would go away if she felt ignored. Well, Jenna thought this until Evangeline spoke again a moment later, once again expressing her gratitude in the most courteous way possible. Jeez, how this girl made it sound as if the Therian were some sort of hero! Jenna couldn't imagine how bad a situation could have gotten if an angel got a little angry at a quarreling duo. What a dork!

"My name's Jenna," said the Therian after another moment, green gaze on the ceiling as if she weren't interested in the conversation. Maybe if she told Evangeline what the angel wanted to know, she would be content and be on her way? Or maybe she would feel so in debt to the shape-shifter that she would buy Jenna a sundae. Yum. Jenna didn't get her hopes up, however. "I'm glad to have saved the day."

Evangeline raised an eyebrow when Jenna didn't respond. Perhaps coming to sit here before she had replied was not the most polite thing I could have done ... however, she is not behaving in a polite manner, either. Her smile slid off of her face for a second, revealing a cold expression. However, she masked her face when she thought Jenna could notice the angel's frigid demanour, and the small smile reappeared on her face ... but it was not, it seemed, as warm. She took a slow bite out of her sundae, noticing the Therian's glance at it. Huh. Did she perhaps want one? Eva raised an eyebrow at Jenna's smirk. So she did not notice that they had already left? The Anyelos thought for a moment, seemingly getting lost in her own musings.

"My name's Jenna. I'm glad to have saved the day."

Evangeline blinked as the other woman spoke. Ah, yes. "Well, I thank you, Jenna." Silence. The angel didn't really want to end the conversation -- no matter how short -- at that moment. She sighed, leaning back a bit. "Jenna ..." she began, looking at her sundae. "I really am grateful." She looked up. "How may I repay you?" Yes, that might have been a bit much, but ... perhaps it would prevent an awkward silence from building up. From experience, she knew it that, the longer the silence stretched on, the harder it becomes to break it. "Would you wish for me to buy you something?" Ugh. I hope Jenna doesn't think that I shall always treat her like this ... but ... Making up her mind, she prepared herself for Jenna's reaction to what the angel was about to do.

The Anyelos elegantly waved over another waitress, saying, "May I please have another vanilla sundae?" She handed the waitress the proper amount of money, then excused her with a flick of her wrist. She fell into silence again, calmly waiting for the waitress to come back with the food. When the worker arrived, Evangeline took the sundae, and, after waiting a few seconds so that the waitress had left, Eva placed it in front of the Therian. "Here. My thanks," she said, a bit stiff, then sat back down in her chair, steeling herself.

Jenna was already beginning to feel uncomfortable. She wanted to be on her way as soon as possible, not sitting around chatting with some random Anyelos. Couldn’t Evangeline tell from the Therian’s expression how much she wanted to be alone? Suppressing a bored sigh, the shape-shifter propped her cheek on her fist and continued to gaze at the sundae.

"Jenna… I really am grateful."

Here we go again! Jenna looked up at Evangeline a bit icily as the Angel expressed her thanks once more. How many times would she need to say ‘thank you’ before she realized that the Therian got the message? Now the Anyelos was asking to repay the shifter again. With a sigh, Jenna leaned back in her chair and folded her arms against her chest. She started to deny Evangeline’s request to buy her something- despite the fact that the sundae only looked tastier every time she looked at it- but the Angel once again did not wait for a reply.

Jenna rolled her eyes as Evangeline ordered the sundae. Honestly, she really wanted that ice cream, but she could have bought it for herself. She didn’t want to receive gifts from weird girls… especially when a thousand expressions of gratitude served as proper thanks! Figuring that the Angel must have some obsession with being polite, Jenna decided to notify Evangeline of her personality.

"You didn’t have to do that. You’re too nice- you could have just said ‘thank you’ and left." advised the Therian. Still, she couldn’t hide the spark in her eyes when the sundae was placed in front of her. Her nose twitched as the scent of delicious chocolate syrup reached her. Unable to remain stubborn long, she took a bite of the ice cream. "Thanks. But this was unnecessary."
