Piper stood before the statue of Xanth, staring up at the purple monolith a little dizzily. Comet and Fawn were snuffling and sniffing around the base of the statue, held close by their leashes attached to her belt, but they were behaving themselves so she left them to it and instead focused on the goddess's figure breathlessly.
She wasn't even sure what she was doing here. Well... she kind of did. She'd been thinking for a while about it, ever since she overheard someone talking in her shop about asking the goddess to give her beloved chihuahua wings so they could go on flysies instead of walksies together. She couldn't remember if the Anyelos's request had been granted, although she thought she'd remember if she'd seen a flying lapdog, but it had given her the beginnings of an idea anyway and she'd been mulling it over ever since.
She was pretty vague on what she wanted to ask, but it was somewhere along the lines of turning Comet and Fawn into real protectors. She was trying to do everything she could think of to protect herself and was even thinking about asking Dazadi to teach her to fight (although, she really thought that conversation would go down well) but she was self-aware enough to realise she'd never be a fighter. She was too easily distracted, too trusting despite her paranoia, too... soft.
And the truth was, so were her pets. They were easily intimidated, and while she loved them the way they were, she'd bought Comet (or Wolf had, at least) in the first place thinking he could grow up to be a guard-wolf for her. And while she didn't want them to become aggressive little monsters, she wanted to be able to rely on them somehow. It was just... all a bit of a muddle in her head.
So she'd come to summon Xanth - if that was even possible - with the hopes that the goddess would know what Piper needed. Deities were meant to know everything, right?
"Um." Feeling more than a little bit ridiculous as she stood there talking to a statue, Piper nevertheless raised her voice a little. "Xanth? Can I... I mean, if you're not too busy, could I... Could I talk with you for a minute?"
