Danube had been wanting to come to the shore for a while but the prospect of running into one of the dangerous creatures that made the shores and cliffs thier home had terrified him. Still, he'd eventually managed to gather the courage to get here, following the fishermen as they moved to thier boats so not to be alone while travelling. He'd wait for them to return to the shore and travel back with them, too. For now he was stood alone on the damp sands, hoping for the best. He wasn't going to do anything harmful, maybe they'd understand that and let him be. He was no fighter and he had no wish to become one.

He looked around. From the dock where the fishermen had boarded thier boats the beach stretched about a quarter of a mile until it was cut off by rocks and cliffs that he could feel towering over him even here. He had a sudden urge to climb them, he liked high places, but shook his head. He didn't want to risk provoking the griffins the townspeople had warned him about. Besides, he already had an aim for today.

He walked along the beach in silence and then suddenly stopped, crouching and sifting through the damp sands. After a few seconds he found his prize, a tiny but beautiful spiral shell. It was still coated with sand (as, now, were his hands) but it could be washed and polished later. He stood and began walking around again, eyes on the sand below his feet. Hopefully that shell would be the first of many.

Faroah couldn't remember why he was on the beach in the first place, but he was glad he'd come whatever the reason. One moment, he'd been enjoying a bath in the chilly water, his tiny claws kicking under the surface in a vain attempt to steer and the end of his tail scratching behind his ear. He was more than half asleep, his eyes only open a crack, lulled by the rippling waves.

And then, the next moment, something swum right by him. Something wriggly that flashed with colourful irridescence when it caught the sunlight. Faroah was instantly wide awake, his eyes tracking the wriggly pretty as he spread his wings and took flight with all the grace of a bull in a china shop, legs and wings thrashing in the water.

He'd given chase with no thought to the dangers around, above and under him, with no real idea what he was going to do with the wriggly pretty when he caught it, and no clue where the wriggly pretty was even taking him.

It was some forty minutes later, after the pretty wriggly forced him a merry chase up the beach and then back down it, that Faroah finally grew bored of the game and stopped kicking his little legs. His head flopped back, coming to rest awkwardly and uncomfortably against the arch of a wing as the wriggly swam off. And there he drifted for a while, eyes closed against the beating sun. Lulled by the waves, he dreamed of shinies so shiny they put the sun and the moon and all the stars to shame; of sparklies so pretty they made the beauty of all the Nymphs put together look like ugly; of a nest so huge that all of Xanth's realms couldn't contain it.

He also dreamed of Jack and Luna.

He woke up hungry, snorting and snickering as he argued with himself over where to go for his meal. Finally choosing a destination - and far too lazy to struggle out of the water to take wing - he 'poofed away in the blink of an eye, all thought of pretty wrigglies long forgotten.
