REFERRAL: Long ago, a link on RPG-D brought me here.

PLAYER LIMITS

GENERAL: I like action and dialogue in my writing, but I usually can’t tolerate any form of god-modding or puppetting. Having said that, nothing is ever enjoyable to read if all participants are acting as if they can’t possibly be touched/harmed, but their OWN fists will make an impact like a freight-train hitting a haystack. Ergo, I think that it’s fair for the occasional shot to be called (I.E.: In a fight, maybe a boot-to-the-head auto-hits, or a hug always finds its’ target) so long as everybody involved accepts that that particular sword swings both ways.

INJURY: All of my characters are destined to be killed (to make room for others!), and because of that I can accept it when the time is right. I want to see my character get hurt if he earns it, no matter what the cost; otherwise it wouldn’t be realistic, and us fantasy writers are all about realism. Heck, he could lose a limb or two if necessary (I’m not just saying that ‘cause working that through would be tons of fun).

TORTURE: Torture? I’m all about torture. Did he anger the wrong clan, now he’s got to pay the price? Awesome! I can’t think of very many ways in which I’d be upset, which actually makes this section kind of tentative. I’d say go wild until I start hollering, which I’m not even sure is likely.

TRANSFORMATION: Oooh, I’ve never actually tried such a thing in-game before. Usually characters of mine come out having already been turned, and with that said, I’m totally comfortable with this kind of thing. Barring, of course, any turning of my character that occurs while I’m not looking (I.E.: In another thread, a vampire spots my character and turns him, or parachutes into a current one without prior involvement just to bite-and-run).

HELPING: I’m perfectly comfortable with being rescued/healed/helped, literally at any time. Character complaints, however, may be abundant. Doesn’t mean anybody should be discouraged, though.

OTHER: Like the transformation section, I’m totally comfortable with telepaths invading the minds of all my characters. As long as this doesn’t include meta-gaming (such as a person reading past threads and suddenly their character knows all about my past exploits, or bringing up the journal and knowing everything about the character without the presence of telepathy), I’ve got no problem with it.

SEXUAL: Say what you will, but I’ve never been one to combine writing and sex. Heterosexual are the only situations I’ll tolerate, but when it comes to the grittier portions, a shutting door or blackout is all I need.

NOTES: I don’t think I mentioned it enough, but all of these sections are tentative based on their necessity in any given situation/thread. I reserve the right to contradict myself if I have it in my head that the end doesn’t justify the means.

PERSONALITY

Cyric is a man of simple tastes; a man of few wants and wishes. All that life can offer, with its joys and surprises, is simple in his eyes. Everything in Cyric’s life begins, ends, and continues thanks to the flow of what he calls the most powerful force ever to grace this realm, and all others: wealth. Cyric doesn’t know how to function without using currency for every little task; if he’s to go pick up food, he’ll add a ten percent “obtainment fee” to the total price. Everything from finding a lost item to the simple task of delivering a message is priced, if not based on the cost then on an incremental scale according to coins per meter travelled.

To say that Cyric is greedy would be to say that fire is lukewarm. Unlike many of his unscrupulous counterparts, Cyric is so married to wealth and fortune that spending but a penny is a life-or-death scenario. All that keeps Cyric from becoming a Baron is the fact that guards must be bribed to keep him out of jail, and while chasing after a bigger prize Cyric becomes less inclined to stay so frugal. Far too often Cyric will physically lose a valuable cache while trying to escape an incoming threat, and for this reason, he lives quite poorly.

All of this causes Cyric to become optimistic, for money comes in and out of his hands in such quick progression that he’s always looking forward to the next mad-dash-for-cash. Therefore, Cyric is not very quick to anger unless his funds are endangered; in which case he will only stop at extreme bodily harm or lengthy incarceration before letting his prize go. Cyric may be a thieving little greedmonger, but suicidal he is not. If Cyric can’t get what he wants through wealth, a subject which often is more wealth, then bartering and bargaining arise as his two most prominent talents.

Though Cyric doesn’t think of himself as a liar or a con-artist, all of the signs are there. Sometimes, his grandmother is dying and the only way to save her is to give Cyric what he asks for, and other times, he’s part of a massive network of mercenaries who can only be kept at bay by pleasing Cyric’s every compulsion. The success or failure of Cyric’s lies notwithstanding, he has enough of a mental presence that many different webs of lies are sprung and organized depending on the person or crowd. He has, at the very least, become talented at reading people and telling them what they need to hear in order to loosen up the pocketbook.

BACKGROUND & HISTORY

BIRTHPLACE: The Rowan Caverns
CURRENT RESIDENCE: New Alexandria
OCCUPATION: Errand Boy
DAILY LIFE: During the day, Cyric runs errands and menial tasks of all kinds, for a more-than-modest price. During the night, however, Cyric spends his time getting to know New Alexandria’s wealthier sectors, and in particular, the shiny jewelry the residents keep locked away in their homes.
FAMILY HISTORY: Cyric’s family held together on carefully-placed lies and bribes. Shortly after he became a teenager, however, Cyric’s brother and father were finally put into jail.
FAMILY:
    Spouse: Unmarried.
    Children: None.
    Father: Balor; incarcerated.
    Mother: Aislin.
Siblings: Connor; adopted older brother, incarcerated.
    Paternal Grandparents: Deceased.
    Maternal Grandparents: Deceased.

GENERAL BACKGROUND: Cyric was born out of wedlock, to two thieves living in the Rowan Caverns. Both of them were disgraced, not because of the child; the two of them became bonded in marriage shortly after his birth to cover it up. Rather, they were notorious for their greed, and were hardly secretive about teaching their ways to Cyric and Connor. When the guards came for Balor and Connor, Cyric and his mother were allowed to leave unhandled, even though there was no compulsion legal or otherwise trying to edge them out.

All that kept Connor from wearing Cyric's same mantle was the fact that Balor and Aislin found him years ago, wandering the streets and performing parlor tricks for food. Though they always looked upon him as flesh and blood, his relationship with his adoptive parents diminished when Cyric (a child to which Aislin had actually given birth) appeared. A chasm between Cyric and Connor had always existed, especially considering Cyric's aptitude for diplomacy and deception. Before he was hauled into prison, Connor had begun to harbor a great hatred for his "younger brother", and in fact may not have been caught had he not so brashly attempted a dangerous stunt; performed in the hopes of making Balor and Aislin pay more attention to him than to young Cyric.

Cyric himself made no attempt to change his family’s reputation while living within Therian society. Before being caught, Balor had passed down his own father’s tradition of thievery. It was Cyric that created the second step; choosing one’s targets with surgical precision. Being the youngest gave Cyric an advantage, for he saw and learned from the mistakes of his elders. Cyric’s intention had been to clear his name and convince the greater community that, despite being taught, he wouldn’t follow in his father’s footsteps. Internally, it had been the first and most perfect lie Cyric had ever woven. On the day that he and his mother took leave, even Balor believed that Cyric was going to commit to an honest life.

In New Alexandria, Cyric made the commitment to avoid the nastier situations that his father and older brother had run into. With massive markups as his weapon, Cyric proposed that honest work could be both profitable and easy to maintain. Having accomplished that through careful negotiation, however, Cyric utilized free time and his simian form to bring in that extra revenue from those that could spare it. In Cyric’s mind, those with wealth did not have to share if their locks were accessible; he could force it upon them regardless. That being said, Cyric himself has little interest in sharing his own wealth, no matter how easy it was to obtain.
