Ehehehehehehe. So as you may or may not, I took up crochet in August. Or around August? :? It might have been early September or late July. But no, it was August, I'm sure.

But anyway, I digress!

Wanna see pics of what I've been making? XD

(Please excuse the quality of said pictures. I've been using my phone so some of them look a bit... bad.)

This is Mowbray. He's my youngest (don't ask), and he's modelling my first ever crochet project: A hat. It was meant to be a hat for my sister's baby when he's born (due February! :o :o :o lol two days after my sister's birthday >D) except... I kinda made it too small. I plan to donate it to charity (Mowbray wanted to keep it but as you can see, it doesn't quite fit him, and all my other bears are too big).

Erm. This would be me. <_< Modelling my awesome super cool fabulastic headkerchief... thingymabob. It's basically just a granny triangle. The flowers on top? Not supposed to be that big. <_<

But I like it, and it keeps my hair out of my face. :D Even though my sister did say "it looks a bit comedy". :(

I made this for my dad's birthday. It... kind of looked okay? The ribbing went wonky with some going straight up nd down, and the rest going sort of diagonal-oh-I-can't-be-bothered-*slouch*-ly. And on me it looks like a hat, but on my Dad it kind of looks like a hat with a puffy bit on the side. I dunno what went wrong there, but I blame the shape of my dad's head rather than any lack in crocheting skill on my part.

<_<

Whee! This is my favourite project with the best results: a drawstring bag. Like, it's super useful for me because I'm bedbound and have a lot of stuff that I need close to hand, but I only have one table and it's already kinda jammed. So I decided to make a bunch of these types of bags to put stuff in, that can tie to the bedrail so I can get to them without having a ginormous single bag that's too heavy to untie and lift. Right? Right.

But I love the look too. The pattern called for a single colour but I didn't have enough yarn, and then I had this maroon and cream set, and figured what the hell. Learned a lot with this project and I love how it turned out. XD

Okay but the best bit is this:

Well, not necessarily that. That's a practise run on a bunny I'm making for my soon-to-be nephew. The pattern calls for gold and fuschia (sp?) but I bought navy (him being a guy and all, I figured he wouldn't want pink (:), but I didn't want to use the best stuff for the practise run. One of my carers saw the pic when I was checking out the pattern and said she wanted one, and I'd made her a head-kerbobby in this variegated stuff so I knew she liked it. And by pure luck I finished it last night and it's her birthday today, so guess who got a bunny for their birthday present? XD

It kinda looks a bit creepy with the way I made the eyes, and the lack of a mouth (I can't sew T_T), but it's kinda cute too. I can't wait to see how the real thing turns out. Except bigger. The real thing's gonna be way bigger.

I have other projects I've made, too, like my fingerless gloves to match my headthingy (yay for toasty fingers when typing), but I don't have copies of the pics on my HDD. I have them on my ravelry account, soggymuse, if anybody's on there? Hee, we can be crocheting buddies.

And has anyone noticed, I've started talking more and more like Kiel?

That's kinda creepy, man. <_<

Oooh oooh oooh! My mum's been wanting to pick up crochet, and she saw this magazine advertised on the tv...called the Art of Crochet or something? You get some nice free stuff with it, but we haven't been able to find it anywhere :( Maybe it's available to order off the interweb somewhere? Hmm, just thought I'd let you know. Love the bunny!

It's definitely available on the intarwebz, I got my first issue today. XD It comes with DVD on how to get started, too; I'm kind of past that point, sort of, since I used online video tutorials to learn the basics, but yeah, the free stuff looks cool. :D

*Squeal!* I so wanna bunny! <3 While we're at it, a Mowbray clone would be fabulous, too. With a hat, pwease? Thank you. ;)

I personally like your hat thingymabob, Ems, but then I have strange taste. XD It reminds me of a hat I saw in an antique store in downtown Glendale once. I totally mean that as a compliment. I mean, you seriously should have seen the price tag on that sucker! o_O

The drawstring bag reminds me of Easter for some reason. It be prettiful. ^_^

I agree about your dad's hat. It's totally his head's fault. We should save up to get him a skull re-shaper for this Christmas. <_<

Yes, see! I knew it was Dad's fault somehow. >D And I'm not surprised the bag reminds you of Easter; the pattern was called "Spring Bag", so I think it has that kind of theme. :)

And I finished these today:

They're so cute! And the lime with the brown makes them look all summery, which is ideal 'cause I made them for 3-6 months, which is what he'll be right around the height of summer, but the yarn's thick enough to be warm even on cold days. =D Ahhhhh, I'm so pleased with myself right now, it's funny. XD

weeeeee! A crochet buddy! <3 I just read this thread and I didn't know you crochet Emma :) I love your bunny, so cute! Have you been to the Lion Brand site? They have tons of cool free patterns there... n.n It's where I get most of mine lol The problem though is the yarn :/ We only have one type of crochet yarn here so I always have to improvise >.< but my dad's coming home from the U.S. at the end of the month which means a set of new crochet threads for me *squeal*. New projects coming soon! :D

Amber, yay! *glomp*

Yeah, Lion Brand's where I got the bunny pattern from. :D And here's the real version, as sewn together by a friend:

Posted Image Posted Image

She's decided she doesn't want any more knitted/crochet stuff so I'm gonna unqueue the other stuff I had planned for the time being, though. (:

Hmm, I know it's not as good for crochet and I don't have much experience with different yarns so I could be talking out of my ears, but have you tried using knitting yarns? My grandma and a friend gave me a few balls of leftovers from their knitting stash; it can be a bit rough on the fingers so you can't spend all day doing it (<_<), but it's okay otherwise. In fact, I've yet to buy yarn from the specialist crochet cotton department. XD But my main problem is, with buying online, you can't tell what the texture's like until you've got it in your hand. :?

Yay for having a crochet buddy! <3

haven't thought of using knitting yarns... :| well, I didn't because I don't like the texture... XD so I never thought about it. But I might give it try, but probably not for projects that would need close contact with the skin :P Free Crochet has lots of nice patterns too. I made a bookmark called "Remember the Day" for my mother last Christmas and it turned out okay :D A classy type of bookmark though a bit thick to put in between the pages so she never uses it x.x

I'd like to ask where you got the booties pattern? I love them... and my cousin just gave birth to my niece last September! This would be a cute present! :D

I bought the bootie pattern from a designer called Tara Murray via ravelry.com (she's got an etsy store, but I don't know the url). For a girl, you could put a flower on the strap and/or make flower-shaped buttons, that'd be so cute! <3 There are also some cool boot patterns on youtube, like a high-top trainer style thing, but they were a bit more complicated than I could handle. So cute though. XD

Ooh, I hadn't seen that website, thanks! :D You gotta love people for putting patterns on the internet; if I had to buy books, I'd never get anything done (storage issues, lol).
