At the end of Duminas, mainlanders celebrate the Danse Macabre, a festival where the dead are said to return.

For your characters to take part in the death rites and subsequent feast, you need to design a mask for them to wear using the template below*. You can design it as if it was their own hand-made creation or an heirloom they've inherited, but remember that Elysia doesn't have factories so materials should be natural (or easily processed).

* You can go outside the lines on this template, by the way, to make different shapes, as long as the base is the same to give everyone a fair chance.

To enter, post your mask as a reply to this thread by midnight (GMT) on the 31st of October (remember to say which character it's for). The winner, to be chosen by poll, gets ζ200. There's no limit on how many masks you can enter or how many characters you can enter for.

By the way, if your character(s) would like to help celebrate the Danse Macabre, you're welcome to throw up a thread or two. (It's just not an official event because most everyone is too busy right now for me to run one.) However, the DM does only last a couple of days so please keep that in mind when you post.

My entry is actually for Piper. (Kiel can't sit still long enough to design a mask, lol.) It's Piper's first year participating in the Danse Macabre but she wants to even though she doesn't know anyone in Elysia who's died (although she does worry about Wolf...)

(To explain the design 'cause I can't draw very well... the fuzzy colour around the top is meant to be a kind of pleated veil that sticks up above the eyes. The loopy dots at the bottom are little beaded chains hanging down. I wanted to add sequins and stuff too but I can't do them. )

When he mentioned to his sister that there was a festival involving masks and that he wanted to go, she saw photos of his half-finished attempts to make one and decided to do it for him. (Really, I just wanted an excuse to make another and there's no way Daz or Maaike would attend. (

*hugs* I know that feeling. I was wondering about extending the contest since it ended Sunday night, but I think we're all too busy right now. Maybe next year.
