Alexshire

Alexshire is a city-state straddling the River Cora. It is made up of the City of Alexandria, a couple of hamlets, and 300 square miles of farmland. The rich district (known as New Alexandria) houses some 5,000 of the city's wealthiest merchants and officials, and was built around Elysia's main portal.

From the crack of Elysian dawn Flynt had been awake and whilst through no admission of his own (he'd been woken by a rather rowdy bunch of birds) he was glad of it. He'd been traveling the country over the past few weeks with his dance troupe which, delightful as it was, did very little to complete the ever growing mount of chores he had to complete. And so there he was, just back from his tour of the country with his muscles searing and his back aching, up at some unthinkable hour of the morning plodding through his chores. Despite the annoyance of his over worked muscles reminding him every two seconds that they wanted a break he still managed to wash his clothes, check his finances and clean his apartment with a bounce and energy that was exceedingly rare.

Time really was of the essence however. The life of a dancer, particularly an elemental dancer in training was a hectic one and despite only just returning from tour he had a week full of dance lessons beginning that very afternoon. Needless to say he would have very little time to dust cobwebs from behind his bed when practicing back flips in the studio. Fully aware of this, Flynt was determined to complete his chores and housework all within the morning, as the saying goes 'time waits for no Nymph' and time was in very, very short supply.

What had become increasingly apparent to Flynt, and becoming more and more of an issue with his stomach growling to be fed, was that there was no food in the house. None at all. He didn't much see the point in stocking up when he'd be away touring for weeks, coming home to cupboards of rotting food didn't much appeal to him. It therefore seemed natural that his next move would be to stock his pantry, and where else to find all the food you could ever want but New Alexandria? He'd quickly written down a list of what he needed (normally he'd take the time and browse the stores and markets but time was of the essence and he couldn't afford that luxury), grabbed an armful of library books that needed returning and stepped out of his apartment.

New Alexandria was exceedingly busy, despite it being mid morning and the stores and markets only just open. The comforting smell of fresh bread drifted through the streets as the shouts and calls of the tradesmen grew steadily as they competed with each other, as if in a shouting competition. With a glance down at his list perched in between his fingers he scowered the streets for his first purchase: fresh fruit and vegetables. Noticing a relatively quiet stall he briskly began pacing towards it, still very aware of the time constraints he faced. Unfortunately however, carrying a rather large selection of books in his arms proved to be an amateur mistake. His foot tripped across a stray branch of wood which has mysteriously found its way into the market and the books balanced against his chest toppled and fell to the floor. Even Flynt's ever-so cheery mood couldn't stay happy forever and he let out an exasperated sigh as he knelt down to pick them up, hoping they hadn't been damaged. He could barely afford his weekly shop let alone the costs of a set of books.

And then right beside the books, a covered basket would make an appearance -- and then a pair of feet, knee propped up, two hands and arms and the books would be lifted by them, piled up onto each other as soon as they were collected.

Nicolay made no sound as he went about the civic duty of helping others. He did wonder why anyone would bring books out into the market when there was all sorts of stuff that could damage it, just waiting for an opportunity (he learned to be especially mindful of books with thanks to a certain nyad) but he said nothing of it as he handed the volumes he'd gathered to the sidhe, a light smile on his face. Around them, no one had bothered to notice them -- life simply went on. There were lunches to make, meat to buy and the day was mild and sunny and bright, something reflected off the clothes that the citizens wore.

The Therian himself wore a plain tee and a pair of jeans and his trustee running shoes, the sleeves exposing a small claw of his scar.

Almost out of nowhere and before he could even reach for his books a figure had already clasped them up and offered them to him. It came as quite a shock to him to receive an act of kindness in the busy marketplace where people seemed more interested in pushing and shoving to get the best offer than courtesy, manners and kindness. He curled the books up into his arms again, clenching the books tightly between his bicep and chest and stood up. He looked down to the Therian who had helped him out and gave out a large smile, it was only a small act but it came so out of character for the environment they were in that it made his day. Holding out his hand to be shook by Nicolay he warmly expressed his gratitude.

"Thankyou for that, it was very kind of you." he couldn't help but notice the small claw of a scar peeking from under the man's t-shirt sleeve to which he raised an inquisitive eyebrow. It was a subtle move and one that could easily be missed or mistaken for something else, yet not intending to appear rude he snapped his gaze to Nicolay's own and grinned widely forming small dimples in the hollows of his cheeks.

A few months ago, Nicolay wouldn't have been bothered to what he did. The impulse would be there, but he wouldn't have acted on it. It was nearly a year since he'd stumbled into Elysia, however -- and now having found out what he is, what he could do, he knew it was about time he started acting like a local, not a stranger. He had already decided to make this city, this realm -- his birthplace -- his home, after all.

So he smiled widely at the sidhe, lips stretching to the sides of his face and all, and he said to him, “Ah, it was nothing!” as he reached out and shook his hand, something a little odd to him but hey, between the two of them, who was the odd one, right? “I saw it happen, I couldn't just pass by and ignore you, could I?” He bent to his side and picked up his basket from the ground and carried it to his side. There was still a little more shopping to be done. He couldn't stop here, after all...

“So, you're good now?” he gestured to him.
