Alexshire

Alexshire is a city-state straddling the River Cora. It is made up of the City of Alexandria, a couple of hamlets, and 300 square miles of farmland. The rich district (known as New Alexandria) houses some 5,000 of the city's wealthiest merchants and officials, and was built around Elysia's main portal.

The first Farmer's Market Event would have gone on smoothly had it not been for, well, nature's call.

When Nero got there with a sack of potatoes over his shoulder, the fixed square on a patch of solid green was surrounded and filled with long tables covered by cloths waving with the wind and the most fantastic display of colors he had seen after a while. The farmers of Alexshire had gathered with the best of their harvest on that day and one of them was a Therian friend of his who made constant travels to and fro the Fae Forest. It was he that Nero visited, congratulating him for his good produce and staying long enough to help him set up his booth and help him through the first few buyers -- mostly wealthy women from New Alexandria.

And then lo, a dashiri. Even now, Nero couldn't get his head around how it got to the event a good distance away from the riverbanks it was used to but it was clearly pretty damn angry. It was making a strange, gassy noise, its mouth was foaming, and faster than he can utter, "What--" everyone had panicked and began running away. Round fruits and root crops were flung to the air the moment the dashiri ripped the barrier of triangular flags off, taking with it the poles holding them up and then charging forth, breaking chairs and tables. The horses bound to their carriages were behaving no better.

And then it was headed straight to his friend's space.

What the hell could Nero do? His friend had shifted to a gytrash but there was clearly no way he could even force a rampaging dashiri back an inch. It was simple logic and all he needed to start the fire. The warmth of his Firebrand spread a comfortable heat around his wrists as a snake of flames surrounded his curled fingers until he practically leaked of them. As the dashiri lifted a hoof in an attempt to smash his head in, Nero flung both his furious hands to the mammal's direction and out burst an ample blossom of flame which erupted at the chest of the deranged animal.

The dashiri gave out a strangulated wail-moan of sorts as it finally turned to run away from him -- and then collided with a carriage streaking past the market. That one broke helplessly -- at least it wounded the dashiri while it was at it -- and was soon decorated by glorious fire on its broken edges as the driver flailed and ran away and the farmer who owned the sacks of wheat, leaves, spices, whatever, began to wail for his soon-to-be-lost hardwork.

Nero's jaw promptly slackened. “Ohhh sh...”

Rea loved a good farmers’ market. She had grown up appreciating the trade and fresh ingredients that came from the local farms. It was hard to find anything truly freshly cut and harvested in the city. Plus it gave her an excuse to move about and to simply get out of her rooms. A change of scenery every now and again also was healthy so it was good to get out and have fresh air filling her lungs.

Her skin complexion must have lost another shade between the when she had last been outside as the sun on her skin felt fantastic and her eyes had taken a little while to simply adjust to the light. Licking her lips she had begun to wander through the various tables and smiled at the vendors. There were so many different tables set up around the area.
The tables were each filled with the best of the season. Some had fresh fruits and vegetables others had fresh baked goods. There were so many different things around, which was a plus as there was plenty of time for her to simply wander around and the more there was the more excuse she had to be wandering about.

Slowly she came up to a stall that had several herbs laid out in a row, half the table fresh and the other dried. She picked up a few string of fresh mint and smiled at the vendor and discussed the price and pulled a few coins from her saddle bag and paid him with a smile and turned to continue through the tables. Plucking a leaf off of the mint leave she placed it into her mouth and slid the rest of the herb into her bag and adjusted it on her shoulder.

For a moment she savored the flavor in her mouth nothing made her happier than the taste of mint. There was a calming bite to it that seemed to give her. The simple taste seemed to transport her to a moment of serenity. At least that was until there was a sudden disturbance somewhere sort of near her.

Rea could not pin point exactly where it was all she had time to do was leap out of the way as people ran towards her and then past her screaming and shouting without a care what they ran over. Frowning she watched the waste but could not get a clear look at what was happening around her or the cause for the chaos.

Sounds all blurred together when she caught the smell of smoke. There were very few people left straggling past her. She heard a wail or maybe a moan or maybe both, all she could discern from it was that there was a noise of pain. Moving quickly towards the smell of smoke her eyes widen as she saw a creature topple into a cart lighting the contents on fire.

Her focus was drawn to the man standing with his back to her with his shoulders slumped wailing about his crops. Frowning she moved behind him and placed her hand on his shoulder to make sure he was okay. At least, okay beyond the loss of his cart and goods.

Looking around she first noticed a figure on the other side of the flames, though she could not really get a good look at who or what the figure was. Squinting she looked at the creature that had toppled the cart. Was that a dashiri? Tilting her head to the side she could not remember ever seeing one out of the water this far. Maybe she it was not what she thought it was. Was it? The fire began to spread quickly to consume the cart. Her hand was still on the man who owned the cart, she only had a slight fear he might try and dive into the flames to save the goods. What could she even do to help?
