Please Read

Full Name: Maximilian Vakarios
Nickname(s): Max / Max-Factor
Gender: Male
Real Age: 173
Apparent Age: 22
Race: Anyeli
Class: Skotadi
Specialty: None
Date of Birth: 9838 XA
Financial Standing: Middle-class; able to afford bare necessities with enough left over to put some money into savings
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Model/Playby: Hunter Parrish
Ethnicity: White
Height: 5’9
Hair Colour & Style: Blonde, windswept, short
Eye Colour: Brown
Build: Lean, athletic; the product of vigorous activity (running, falling, flying, etc.) rather than pointed exercise/weight training.
Fashion Sense: Max typically garbs himself in a T-shirt and a hooded vest, complete with adjustable slots in the back for his wings, the colors of which can range from light blue, to navy; lightweight pants typically confined to tans and browns, and custom-fitted black hiking boots, each of which has the Skotadi symbol inscribed on the heels.
Distinguishing Features: Two black wings, which extend eight feet out.

Max is a simple man, with simple tastes: he enjoys sunsets, good coffee, and the sound of air rushing past his ears as he tests his wings against a 700 foot drop. The accepted moniker for a person like Max is "adrenaline junkie", but he is not a man that blindly chases after every cheap thrill he can find. As a courier, Max makes it his duty to complete his deliveries as quickly as possible, and he also makes a point to advertise himself as "the only courier willing to traverse the dangerous and unknown". Excitement and danger are not the only forms of entertainment that Max accepts, and he is sometimes capable of enjoying himself without risking his life, but being in mortal danger is his favorite way to have fun.

Max is not entirely hedonistic, and is entirely capable of being serious (somber, even!), but he keeps a lighthearted and upbeat attitude in most situations, ever the optimist. Max is typically outgoing and friendly, and in spite of the fact that he has very little down time between deliveries, has no problem socializing with the locals in any given place, barring any kind of racial (or personal) prejudice against him. In spite of Max’s constant thrill-seeking, he’s no stranger to fear, and can indeed get scared in certain circumstances, but he can be quite prideful regarding his self-image and strives to at least appear fearless in the face of almost every kind of danger. Water and swimming are Max’s kryptonite, and the same goes for heavy rain; if there is any kind of danger with which Max hates dealing, it’s the danger of drowning because he doesn’t know how to swim.

Birthplace: Acheron Fort, Elysia
Current Residence: A quiet flat in Acheron
Occupation: Courier
Daily Life: Max is constantly looking for more work, even when he’s stopped in another city after finishing a delivery, Max will advertise his services to the people there, and as a result he is constantly on the move. Aside from sleeping at night, Max is rarely in one place for very long, and if he is it’s likely because he’s found a new and exciting way to risk his life doing something dangerous, or he’s found a brew of coffee that he finds particularly delicious.
Family History:
Family:
    Spouse: N/A
    Children: N/A
Father: Jason; taught Max everything he knows about trade routes and navigating around Elysia. A retired courier himself, Jason now owns a tea shop
Mother: Selene; taught thrill of danger to Max, as well as the importance of laughing in the face of death. Selene is a retired Geographer, Geologist, Journalist, and Doctor. Selene co-owns Jason’s tea shop.
    Siblings: None.
Paternal Grandparents: Nikolas and Anna; retired soldiers; taught Jason everything he knows about honor and discipline, and attempted to impart to Max the importance of serving in the military.
    Maternal Grandparents:
Gus and Dora; retired soldiers; tried to teach Selene about living a sheltered, cloistered life, and volunteered to pay for Max’s hospital bills when their lessons failed.
General Background:

What Max calls “a skill for finding danger” is referred to by everybody else as bad luck, which has followed him all his life. When Max was just a baby, an Anka scooped him up and flew him to its nest, and its plan may have involved using the boy as lunch for its own children were it not for Selene’s timely intervention. Ever since the first time he’d narrowly avoided becoming Anka food, Max had become a magnet for catastrophes and peril of all kinds. If Max joined Jason on a delivery, they’d be accosted by some combination of wild beast or desperate bandit during both the trip to the destination and back home. If Max ever went with his mother on an expedition to explore ancient ruins, some part of it would inevitably collapse, forcing them to run for their lives to escape being crushed.

Years of stray explosions, angry dragons, fire-breathing Elementals and scheming Naga trying to kill him (sometimes all at the same time) hardly turned Max into a multi-phobic shut-in, as his parents were afraid it might. Max began to delight in experiencing the rush of narrowly avoiding violent death, and over time he became more talented at escaping with less intense injuries. No matter how many people chanted the words “cursed with that luck”, Max focused on the positives that came out of each experience: a thrilling rush, a new story to tell, and he’d lived through it every time.

When Max was tasked with joining a faction and beginning his education thusly, he wasted no time in deciding on becoming Skotadi. For most of his life, Max’s grandparents (Nikolas in particular) told him stories about the Apali’s glorious brutality and their honorable ways of waging war. For Max, the Apali had been unintentionally painted as a faction made of brutes and warmongers, whereas the Skotadi were willing to accept more subtlety, and the fact that he was looking to follow in Jason’s footsteps in terms of careers meant that he wasn’t necessarily looking to become a sword-wielding grunt.

When Max completed both his schooling and obligatory service, he had remarked to his former superior officer that “This civil war stuff, it’s not really for me,” which in turn meant that he had no intention of continuing his education. Neither Jason nor Selene had been staunch supporters of their factions (both of them being Skotadi, with nothing but good things to say about the faction, certainly had something to do with the development of Max’s choice), and living in Acheron’s Fort had hardly fostered an environment of strict military dedication.

After just a few delivery jobs, Max was able to move into a flat, start buying his own food, and very quickly found himself traveling all over Elysia to make deliveries. Living by himself, Max has started to increase his down time between deliveries, as he has begun to enjoy making new friends and meeting new people during his journeys.
