Hello! So I stumbled upon this site from RPG Directory, and have been stalking the wiki in between real life things all day. I must say I'm impressed and after looking over a few things I quickly fell in love with a character concept that popped into my head. My idea was for a Dracovari/Zanaryan half breed. (He'd be mostly Dracovari, but he'd have wings and the smell of sulfur) who would be an impish trickster.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if I can have him be a half-breed from the beginning even though I wouldn't have the funds for the hybrid skill pack and would have to buy that later. I figure if its all the same to u he'd be unable to use his zanaryan abilities until after I bought the hybrid pack, and IC i'd have him traveling to the temple whose name escapes me to unlock his elemental powers. I'd be willing to have the zanaryan weakness beforehand though.

I'm a total newb and I'm not sure how well this would work but i really want to figure out how to make this character fit in here. Part of me could imagine this character developing into a bit of a trouble maker, and I love playing villains so I might turn him into a bit of a Loki character, idk yet. I'm gonna stop before I start rambling lol.

Hello, and welcome to EF. :) Thank you for your interest!

There are some answers to your questions in the Character FAQ where it talks about hybrids. The upshot of it is that you would be able to buy the Hybrid pack later. :) However, a Septed 'Varian wouldn't be permitted to then bond with an element (Zanaryans jealously guard their secrets, and can be quite paranoid as a species, so the idea of granting access to a potential spy wouldn't sit well with them), but someone who's (apparently) forsaken the Dracovari would stand a better chance.

We definitely could use some villainous types, even petty crooks, and I appreciate your trying to work with us. :) One thing I would mention is that, as species, both the Zanaryans and the Dracovari can be a bit uppity and strait-laced, so a Loki character may not work with them in and of itself. I'm sure there are ways around that, though, like maybe life has taught him to not take it too seriously, or he's had enough of the prejudices and become vindictive or vengeful. I guess it depends how malicious you want him to be (because I could really see a vengeful-Zanaryan-on-the-warpath type, but not really the trickster-who's-in-it-for-the-lulz type).

Anyway, I hope you have fun getting to know us and our game better. :D

Hi, OP here, finally had time to make an account lol.

Anyway, I realize that two serious races combining into a joker is a bit far fetched, but allow me to elaborate: at first he is sincerely rather playful. He is the "runt" of his family and has been adopted. He's immature for his age. While he's not yet Septed he has taken to low level telepathy as a way to entertain himself, so most believe he has a future in the Peteulanus Sept, if he ever grows up. Regardless, I see him as a person who uses foolishness to disguise a hidden feeling of superiority, even among the 'Varians. He believes his wings make him more like a true dragon than his brethren, but he hides these feeling behind a fools mask.

He would indeed start as a petty criminal, Dracovarian hoarding instinct + trickster = theif lol. But yea, his playful nature hides a sinister mind. He's not evil for evil's sake, but his being the cross of 2 structure based societies has left him with a very dark rebellious streak, I'v also thought of a few amusing plots involving him, a nest of impti dragons, a city of unsuspecting vilagers, and a bag of shiny glass marbles. (From what I read, its apparently possible for impti dragons to answer a summons, despite them being forbidden from it and most summoners not wanting their help)

But basicly he's less of a harmless prankster who is in it for laughs and more of manipulator who feels like spreading chaos while he seeks something to further his own goals. (I also have a few other ideas for his end game, but they're not fully developed. I can share if you like, although I'd rather keep my evil schemes semi-private) If I come up with something for his past that fits the Zanaryan on a war path idea I'll be sure to include it. Complex villains are always more fun.

(I'm sorry if any of that is hard to follow. I've been cooking up ideas for this character since yesterday and I'm rather excited. My thought process may be a bit scattered, even if it makes perfect sense to me lol)

Hello again, Three. :D

Well, the "Zanaryan on a warpath" versus "lulzy trickster" was just an example, so you don't have to include that. I was just thinking of ways a character like this yours would work in this setting, and that was one of the most obvious ones. I like your concept, but Telepathy is only available to Pets so he'd have to be Septed before he could do anything telepathic. (Dragons can communicate telepathically so he'd be able to share conversations with his family's dragons, but it'd be on their end, not his.)

... I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with a clan of impiti. >D But, while it would technically be possible to Summon them (ignoring the legal ramifications of doing so), Summoning is a specialisation 'Vari only get after they've Septed, so obviously there's a point where you'd have to decide if he wants 'Vari or Zanaryan class skills (even with a Hybrid pack, he couldn't get class skills from both, only the basic ones)...

However, if he can't Summon them, then maybe he discovers their nest (it's possible there's one close to the White City in Nirim, or even in Elysia. (lol, it could end up being a quest, "get rid of those damned imps!" and then it turns out the villagers actually mean imp dragons, which are a whole different kettle of fish from actual imps.) If he bargained with them or tormented them with shinies (like the marbles) to chase, he could maneuvre them (deliberately or accidentally) into a town for shenanigans. >D

Either way, I'm fine with you keeping your plottage to yourself. :)

Seems I was a bit confused as to how Hybrids worked lol. I'd still be able to take Flight (up to level 2) even if I became a septed 'Vari right? that would be considered a "basic" skill? That... Well it changes things =P I still love my character concept, but it kind of ruins my plans to have him combine mental manipulation with fire breath :P of course, in character he'd still try to weasel his way into some form of elemental power. Anywho, I'm gonna get to work on him, see what I can come up with. Hopefully I can get him done and get the cash from his acceptance, there is an auction item I wanna bid on XD its gonna help with my end game heehee didn't notice the date on that auction, I am to late lol

Oh, yes, sorry. I don't think it's very clear in the FAQ right now. :/ I have been looking at ways to make dual-classes possible but the races are set up to make it more or less impossible. (I haven't found a way around their refusals to co-operate yet, at least. Plus, there's the whole question of a dual-class being overpowered without some form of system to restrict them, and I just haven't had chance to look in to it too deeply.)

There are ways of getting around it, though. For instance, if you wanted him to have some form of elemental ability, you could buy him an enchanted item (Maaike, for instance, has a flamethrower ring even though she's Therian). However, enchanted items have limitations (like hers only being a one-time deal per fight, since it has to "recharge"), or a pet that has that ability, or get him to the point where he can summon fire-breathing dragons.

Flight would be considered a non-class skill, yes. :)

Eek, sorry about the auction, I'm slacking. :o (I could probably be persuaded to put up a similar item, though, if not right away... (:)

Well, considering Lucian would be a thief, I might message the auction winner and discuss a plot where I could steal it IC and reimburse him OOC, depending if he's up for it. Anyway, If u come up with ideas for multi-classing I'd gladly test them out lol. Anyway, enough rambling I've got work to do.

Also, I'll be keeping an eye on the auction house for anything I might like XD but my plans require something of that nature to set them in motion lol. :P
