This post is a prompt for you to continue yourself.

“Have you lost your mind? Do you have any idea the kind of losses we'll take if you go ahead with this?”

“I'm sorry, sir, but orders is orders. If you have a complaint, please take it to the Magistrate.”

“That octopus doesn't know anything about running a harbour. If he forces this embargo, there'll be a dozen angry captains storming my office, not his. And that'll just be the first day!”

“I'm not sure what you think I can do about it. I'm just following orders, and clearly something has to be done. This is the fifth case of poisoning this month. We know it's some sort of shellfish, but as to who or why...”

“This is ridiculous. You're a sergeant, aren't you? Sarge something! And if that squid thinks he can do this without facing the fall-out, he's another think coming. I'll be sending that lot right to his door when the complaints start coming in. And don't think they won't, or that they'll be just the ships themselves. A lot of folk rely on what comes off those boats for survival.”

“Well, then, they'll be glad to know they ain't gonna keel over and die a horrible death, now, won't they?”

Faris heard the commotion long before he saw it; the vocal cords of all seasoned sailors were trained by the storm tides, and they were certainly being put to test right now. And he was still outside of the tavern, many few away! From what he could make out of the nearing din, this particular gathering of seafarers were angry. Knowing that he would be unable to glean much more information, he filtered to noise out and picked up his pace. The sooner he went in, the sooner (hopefully) he would be getting out. Faris waved to a trio who were carrying an unconscious fourth member as he passed them by. When he saw who it was, Faris begun to feel rather apprehensive. By Xanth, what had happened to make Mattson drink to the point of passing out?

Pushing open the door, Faris instinctively closed his eyes as the wave of voices speaking over each other washed over him along with the heavy smell of alcohol. Giving himself a shake, Faris opened his eyes are started searching for the person who had called him here.

The captain of the Dreaming Dolphin caught sight of Faris the moment the Zanaryan step in. It was hard not to, with those pitch-black wings of his. The captain huffed to himself, grumbling about how high and mighty Zanaryans were, always dilly-dallying and taking their own sweet time. He hollered for the part-time fisherman to come over, and while waiting for the newcomer make his way over, continued his tirade about idiot officials. But even before Faris could even take a seat, much less order anything, the captain switched topics as smoothly as an eel slipping through nets.

He knew the Zanaryan would leave once they got the business out of the way. And as much as he appreciated Faris' ability to reel in large catches, the man stunk. Maybe not as much as before, but the smell of rotten eggs was still there, overpowering the smell of alcohol. The sooner they concluded this, the sooner they'd have Zanaryan-free air.

"'Kay, ya'll know I'm not ah heartlass fella, but Hind's Breath, the bloody curfew - The Dreaming Dolphin’s forced to take a looooong break. I can't pay the lot of you for services I'm not going to need. I’d be broke within ‘ta month! So. Ya'll are free from your contracts from this point on. I'm sorry about it man, I really am. Hey, hey Bridget! One round of drinks for the good men gathered here, and put it on mah tab!"
