Like, Kiel probably ought to have tagged along with Jeri and Maaike and them just 'cause, like, you know, he was meant to be the muscle for this gig and all, but, like, he was kinda bored with getting his butt handed to him, you know? And, like, he could fight if he had to even one-handed, but, like, Aifric and Misha and Nin and them were all going and he figured there'd be tons of talking and he really needed the fresh air, like, okay? So instead, he stayed behind on the dock while the others tottered after the Ohani Jericho called Ambassador Serin (like, he didn't know if that was actually what she was, you know, but until they learned different, that was kinda the title he'd saddled her with).
It didn't take more than a few seconds for them to disappear into the deep shadows cast by the city's buildings and, like, for Kiel to get bored of staring out at open ocean. “Hey, hey, you think they'll let us explore a bit? Like, you guys were talking about us looking for the eggs, right? And, like, is anyone else, like, killer curious about this place? Like, dude, how'd they even build buildings like that, you know?” Like, he'd seen some crazy awesome monuments in his travels, you know, like, Dionica just for starters, and he'd learned a whole new respect for engineers and architects and stuff, but, like, he bet they'd have a field day with this place. “And, like, how the heck does it even float, you know? It floats, right? Like, I kinda wanna stick my head underwater to check. Anyone check? I bet it floats, you know?”
He'd already wandered past the two guards, slow enough the probably didn't think he was threatening or something. And, like, there was so much curiosity and awe on his face as he wandered back and forth across the platform and, like, slowly encroached across the "invisible line" he felt they'd drawn in the sand. Or, like, on the platform. You know. And they didn't say anything or stab him in the back or something, so he tottered further along the walkway, his head twisting this way and that. He couldn't see the others at all so he figured they must have gone into the city proper by now, and then the walkway opened onto another platform that, like, split in three directions like a crossroads so he turned back and almost tripped over Shane to yell, like, “Hey, hey, who's coming with? This place is awesome!”
