A P P E A R A N C E

Height: 5’7
Build: Slim by most (human) standards, but for a Sidhe, somewhat bulky; instead of the usually extremely feminine build, he has a roughly triangle-shaped build, with some degree of musculature. By the standards of most races, though, he’s still a skinny, small sort of man. He’s also on the tall side for a Sidhe, at 5’7, and seems likely to grow a bit taller if recent growth spurts are any indication.
Eye colour: Blue
Hair: Light reddish-brown, and worn shaggy and untrimmed. His hair’s naturally somewhat wild, with a tendency towards spiky if left on its own.

First Impressions: Energetic and harmless. Bay tends to vibrate with barely controlled energy, especially when being shown something new or exciting, and his small stature and boyish features make him appear rather non-threatening.

Distinguishing Features: Bay’s small horns and bright blue eyes are usually the first things noticed about him, depending on who’s looking. His fairly dark skin also makes him stick out, especially among the Nymphs.

Bay is a half-breed, and unfortunately for him it shows. His parents had assumed Sidhe would be the dominant feature set when he was born, and raised him accordingly. As adulthood nears, though, his Zanaryan features seem to be becoming more and more prominent, to the point where he’s beginning to look slightly more like one of them than a true Sidhe.

Born with quite dark skin thanks to his mother, his build has always been slightly larger and bulkier than those of full-bred boys his age, and in his early adulthood he now has a noticeably triangle shaped torso, with a slim waist and broader shoulders. Of course, it’s all relative; by most standards, he’s still fairly thin and lithe in build.

He has large, brilliant blue eyes, which are usually open quite wide. His has a strong jaw and developed cheekbones, with a long and slightly jutting nose. The combination gives him features better described as youthful rather than feminine; he seems likely to grow out of his boyish look, though whether he will remains to be seen. His build is boyish as well, and most of his height comes from his long legs. His ears have a gently tapered point to them.

Bay’s skin is a dark brown, with a slightly reddish hue, and a strap of dark freckles bridges his nose. His skin is so far unmarred by scars, and is dark enough to make his blushes all but invisible – embarrassment that might be hidden, however, is usually betrayed by his body language.

His most noticeable feature is the two stubby horns that rise from his head, only recently rising above his messy light brown hair. Betraying his mother’s race, they’re been very slow to grow, and only appeared when he hit puberty and don’t seem destined to grow longer than they already have, leaving him with slightly curved horns about 5 inches in length. He has no signs of the wings that would have made him acceptable to his mother’s race.

If he hasn’t bathed in several days, Bay tends to emit a slight odor of sulfur. This odor also occurs if he gets especially sweaty, and occasionally when he's nervous or scared.

In general Bay comes across as harmless, energetic, and above all awkward. Bay’s usual body language lacks the grace so natural to those of his father’s race, and his tendency to fidget and mutter when embarrassed doesn't help people take him seriously. He dresses as typical for a Sidhe, though his tunic in this case is a sky-blue one made of simple cloth, rather than the typical leather. He prefers to go barefoot when given the opportunity – nowadays this is helped by the fact he simply doesn't own any shoes.


P E R S O N A L I T Y


Bay is…well, not the brightest of boys. Energetic, curious, and seemingly entirely without restraint, Bay is enamored of the world outside the Sylvan Territories and wants to learn everything he can about, well, everything. A young man with quite the scholarly streak, he finds books amazing, and the idea of the CORWW fascinates him.

His upbringing has not aided with his personality any, and has left him in a difficult place among his Nymph peers. While he’s a follower of the Sylvan Creed, he finds it difficult to full grasp the full reasons for it – seeing violence not as something pleasant, but rather as something that just is. Nature is precious to him, but he doesn't quite feel the drive to protect it that is so integral to the culture of Nymphs. Bay has a vested interest in technology especially, much to his father’s annoyance.

Bay is a generally nice sort of person, though. He’s extremely eager to please, a fact that works both in his favor and against him; while a hard worker, his new environment has left him confused as to cultural norms, making him far more likely to do something that’s not exactly legal in an effort to appease someone.

Friendly and eager to learn, Bay also tends not to stop talking too easily, making his persistent questioning often annoying. He tends to be a little bit unsure of himself and shy, however, when he realizes whomever he’s addressing is more important than he is.

He’s a good friend to have, though, and tends to bend over backwards to help people who’re nice to him.

Bay also inherited his father’s stubborn streak, which is one of the reasons he finds himself outside of the Territories in the first place – when possessed of an idea or goal he is very persistent in chasing it down, no matter how impractical or unobtainable it is. He also tends to hold grudges against others, sometimes rather petty ones, which he usually acts upon in a rather passive-aggressive manner.

By far Bay’s biggest issue, however, is his treatment of consequences. Bay usually feels he’s in control of a situation, even if he’s not, and is therefore comfortable with the idea that things could go pear-shaped (because, in his mind, they could…but obviously won’t). What he usually fails to take into account is that the consequences of his actions could be ones that would effect other people; the idea that others might willingly intervene in the fallout of his actions to protect him never crosses his mind. Bay has fairly low self-esteem, under all his pep and energy, and so simply assumes he’s not worth saving.

In short – while he’s a nice and over-eager sort, his odd interests and drive to understand everything are urges that could lead to disaster not only for himself, but for anyone around him. He doesn't realize this, and tends to treat anyone cautioning him otherwise as ignorant.

Overall Bay’s an energetic and nice sort of boy, with interests that put him at odds with his home culture and, in some cases, with common sense. He’s a good friend to have, but tends to ignore advice that cautions him away from his dreams, and his low self-esteem tends to play again him.

Bay left his home with the clothes on his back and his life in Alexandria is going about as well as one might expect, given that qualification and his inexperience with city life. What small amount of coin he has is usually gained via hocking his few possessions, theft, or pure luck.

Born in a tiny hut on the shores of Lake Bethesda, Bay’s parents were an odd couple. His mother, Atalana, was born to a proper House in the Zanaryan’s lands; she’d been trained to manipulate the element of fire and had worked as a Volcano Watcher for centuries. The events of her life that had led to her wandering alone through the Fae Forest were ones she rarely spoke of, but from the odd hint she gave to Jasper and their son, she may well have been a murderess. Bay cannot answer if his mother ever expressed regret for this action, as she spoke of it gruffly and usually with annoyance.

His father, Jasper, is a Nereid – automatically making him an issue for the primarily Nyad and Dryad commune that he called home. A generally genial man, he found himself incensed by the treatment he got at the hands of his fellows, but held out through his stubborn desire to remain in his home territory. His bonded animal, a Spine-Tailed Cat named Serra, provided his element.

Bay was a surprise to them both, and one neither was truly sure what to do with. When Bay was born with no visible signs of Zanaryan heritage past his dark skin, Jasper took him to the Commune, reasoning the child should grow up with others his age. Atalana, never really the maternal sort, did not argue this much.

Still, as a child Bay saw his mother frequently, at first travelling with his father and then visiting her on his own when he was old enough. Her teachings contradicted most of what the commune told him, and his mother taught him much about the world as she knew it – her world seemed far more complex, far more intricate, than the world of the Commune did.

She also taught him to read, a process which took some time and one he still hasn't quite mastered. He enjoyed his lessons with her immensely, and the two were quite close – well, as close as it could be. His mother was a rather aloof sort, but seemed to enjoy her time with him.

His father’s lessons, at the time, were more practical. Jasper taught his son the Sylvan Creed (something his mother openly found ‘silly’) and the laws of the forest. Bay spent his time with the other children, but never quite found a niche, even as a child. He assisted his father in his duties when he was old enough, learning to use a bow and arrow and finding both of his parent’s mastery of fire fascinating despite the distaste the other Nymphs had for it.

Things changed abruptly when his mother vanished, however. Bay was 11 years old when she left, and to this day he’s not sure where she went or why she left – but her sudden departure was something the boy blamed himself for. After that, he turned fully to the Commune, deciding that he was going to be what his father wanted.

It worked…more or less. The appearance of horns didn't help with being accepted much, but he passed his Rite of Passage at the age of 17 with…well, not with flying colors, but he did pass it without too much trouble. Jasper was quite pleased with that, but made no effort to disguise his concern when his son went on to his Bonding – Jasper being worried Bay would bond with Fire, as he had.

His worries turned out to be unfounded, as Bay successfully bonded with Air. Jasper told him this was appropriate, given his son’s tendency to be flighty. But nonetheless, Bay continued his training with his element, finding the world quite a different place once bonded. While his father covered some of the basics of a Wanderer's skills with animals with him, Bay never had much of a touch with the animals around their home.

Still, the eagerness to be a proper Sidhe began to ebb as his horns grew and his father increasingly withdrew from the Commune, spending most of his time away in the forests with Serra. Bay liked most of the Nymphs in his Commune, but had never really grown close to any of them, and the increased feeling of separation did nothing to ease his growing sense of wanderlust.

Bay’s interest in the outside world, which had been ever present, grew over the new few years – half as a desire to learn more of the world than the forest had to offer, and half as an escape to something he might fit into better. The whispers of books – of even libraries – did not help matters.

His decision to leave, made only months ago, was as abrupt as his mother’s; speaking to his father only in vague terms, he took what little he had and thought he would need and slipped away into the night, heading off into the woods and in the direction of Alexandria, where he’d heard the most promise lay.

It took him some time to reach it – getting lost aside, he had left with little coin, and it wasn't long til he lost most of it. Alexandria was everything he’d dreamed it would be, though – and a bit overwhelming. Sleeping in the streets seemed an easy enough proposal at first, but over the last few weeks reality has been setting in.

Still, he has no desire to leave or give up. Having been turned away from the Library, he’s determined to find a way in. With no coin to his name and a rather poor understanding of economics, petty thievery has become his usual method of sustenance, largely because he hasn't really come to understand why such things might be an issue.

The belt itself has a small pouch on it, and between his tunic and belt he has a blue silk sash. His pants and leg guards are leather and of Nymph make, and he currently owns no shoes.

Permissions: I don’t mind godmodding (within reason) but would prefer permission is given before godmodding takes place. Would prefer not to have Bay killed, but everything else is open provided it’s plotted/I have some warning, haha.
Plotting: I’m up for just about anything, really! Bay himself would be looking for knowledge and ancient secrets, so any plots related to that would be dandy – as would someone being willing to train him…in just about anything. Bay’s not the sort to think too hard before saying “yes”. Given his status as a petty thief, he’s likely to get caught by the law at some point, since he’s really not too good at it - or wind up sucked into some of the criminal elements.
