Well Xanth made me... ^^ -whistle-

Wait...no, I lied XD Fang just has another unnatural obsession (I should really start a club ._.). ...Maybe Xanth had a bit to do with it xP

Okay...so...names! Names are just...awesome! n_n especially when they're fun names, not boring human names like Katie, Stephenie...Greg ;P I'm sure you've all visited naming sites a bajillion times over the last few months.

Got a name you wanna suggest for someone else? A new char, perhaps? A name you just think is awesome and should be used for something? Wanna share what your names mean? Unless they're things we really don't want to know... XD
I've stumbled upon a few of yours while searching for my names, but with my obsession, I want to know all of them. I'm sure they're rather interesting :3

So...my names! ^^

Aithe- Was actually originally supposed to be 'Aithne' which meant 'little flame' in Celtic. -koff- But Fang actually forgot the real spelling and put it down as Aithe. Interesting fact of the day alert!

Kaatje- Okay...so I'm sure you're wondering 'Kaatje'? XD Yes, Aithe named her sword. Or maybe Fang made her name it -shifty eyes- Anyways, it means 'pure' in Dutch -prods Esther-

Keahi- I seriously just made up Aithe's last name tonight x3 I really hadn't planned on naming her, and this was a last-minute choice. It means 'Flames, Fire' in Hawaiin -hula- (yea, I haven't really stuck to a language...at all)

Brogan- Aithe's father >D Means 'Sturdy and Strong' in Celtic/Gaelic (there! I used the same language! :o)

Sorina- Aithe's mother! n_n Means 'Peaceful, Serene' in...American XD

There ya go! Fang's name origins! Now share yours >K or else

Ahem. Well. Lemme see...

Belle- Duh. Pretty, beautiful in French. Ahbvious.

Erm, the middle name is undecided at the mo. Ahem. I'm just to lazy to get a middle name for her right now :P Hm. I think I'll choose one right now. :P Satisfied?

Sidra- Star born, in Latin. Happy?

Daae- Last name. Comes from POTO, cause I'm a wee bit obsessed. Christine Daae, Belle Daae (notice anything yet?)

Her parents? Unnamed, as of yet. But the last name is Daae, obviously xP

Onto Mahesa! Yey!

Mahesa- Great and Powerful in Sanskrit! Oh yush, she's Indian, and can /kinda/ read the language. So she knows what her name means. And it scares her. Cause she's not great and powerful at all. :P Anywho, her da is Indian, and her mum is English. Just to clarify things.

Ave- Hail (all bow to), from Latin. Mahesa's royalty. Her mother was on a powertrip. Hence the name. :P

Nagra- I don't really know. Completely made up. Out of the blue. I think it's from a book I read. >> -shifty eyes-

Next, Kaethe (yush I enjoy talking about names :P)

Kaethe- Pure in German. I thought it would fit for an Apalos. Now, well, actually, it still fits. Cause Kaethe is not loose, no matter what anyone says, goshdarnit! -pokeprods Dora-

Anais- It's the name of a French perfume, apparently. I could have sworn it meant something in Hebrew. Oh, wait, it does. Graceful. How fitting. XD

Raesean- Utterly made up. I just like the sound of it. Kinda a distoreted Reason. But, yeah. xP So there you go.

Don't want to [hurt] no more

Mkay mkay mkay. =D Fun! One thing you need to know before reading: Cry Wolf is one of my absolute favorite books. (No, it has nothing to do with the movie. -grumbles-)

Let's start with Sanura.

Sanura = Means 'kitten' in Arabic. I really liked the sound of it, and I was looking for cat related names? -shrug-

Anne = Just... Sounded good?

Chandler = Laurel and Savannah's last name in 'Cry Wolf'. XD

* * *

Ryou's turn!

Ryou = I found the japanese name meaning dragon, which was Ryu, and played with the spelling. Then I realized I'd spelled it like Tokyo Mew Mew. XD

-no middle name yet-

Shirogane = Well, I spelled his first name Ryou, so... Shirogane is Ryou's last name in TMM.

* * *

And finally, Laurel. Though can you see where it's going?

Laurel = One of the main characters in Cry Wolf.

Savvanah = A character in 'Cry Wolf'.

Boudreaux = Last name of Jack in Cry Wolf (omx surprise there!).

* * *

Jack (Laurel's brother) = Umm... Jack Boudreaux. XD Already explained?

Off topic, but dude. Fangers. Where is everyone getting little IDs? I want some! =D They're adorable!

You're right Fang, Kaatje does mean pure in dutch! It looks like I might have found another person to teach a few more dutch words ;) Though basically the word kaatje is never used for pure in the dutch speaking-language but it is popular girl-name.

Erm, I also wanted to say that Kaethe means pure in Greek, not in German :oh:

But now on to the names I came up with sofar here in Elysia:

Daoine Sidheanta
+ Comes from the name "Daoine Sidhe" and relates back to old Irish folklore.
+ Story: After the Tuatha Dé Danann were defeated by the Milesians (Gaels), those members who decided to stay in Ireland formed the Daoine Sidhe, a fairy folk. They live in hollow mounds, hence the name sidhe which literally means "people of the (fairy) mounds". In Connaught they are ruled by Finbheara, who holds court beneath the fairy hill of Knockma. His wife is the fair Oonagh. In Munster, there are three fairy queens: Cliodna, Aine (said to be the mother of Earl Gerald, who sleeps under the castle of Mullaghmast), and Aoibhill.
The Daoine Sidhe are fond of battles, hurling (a kind of field hockey) and are skilled chess players. Many a mortal challenged Finvarra to a game and lost all his possessions, for the king has never been beaten. These fairies are small and this is responsible for the name of daoine beaga, "little folk". They may ride out to hunt, or stir up an eddy of dust, or engage in battles, or steal children, or prevent butter from forming in the churn.

Badger
+ Daoine's dog, an American Molosser that is white with some brown patches. I was looking through dog-names and Badger just jumped out at me. It has no specific meaning I think.

Castalia
+ Comes from Greek mythology as I was looking for a name that fitted a Nymph and related back to water somehow.
+ Was the wife of king Delphus.
+ Was a nymph whom Apollo transformed into a fountain at Delphi ( Castalian Spring)
+ Castalia could inspire the genius of poetry to those who drank her waters or listened to their quiet sound; the sacred water was also used to clean the Delphian temples. Apollo consecrated Castalia to the Muses (Castaliae Musae).

That's it for now :)

OK well... here's my girls.

Xanth is purely made up, though I was told after I created her that it's a place in a series of books (Piers Anthony? Or, someone like that). Which, I kinda find hilarious, because it just proves my point about nothing being original.

Her full name is Xanthorra, but she has no other name. Though, I suppose a few people have wanted to call her something else in the past. :shifty:

Dazadi Dacre. Dazadi is again purely made up, though I've no doubt someone will eventually tell me it's from this or that book. XD Dacre was her father's name - in her family, they have no real surname, but they mark their ancestors by using their father's name as their last name.

Neither of these characters have names that mean anything, but as a writer I've studied the way names can alter the impression you get of a character. The word Xanth is pithy, short, to the point, just like Xanth - but it could be read as either Zanth or Ex-anth, which can be taken as a subtle indication of her changing personality. Dazadi is a strong word - the z, it's that type of sound that just, yeah, lends strength to a word. The harshness of the short a's, Da-za-di, not Dah-zah-dee, add to that.

Erm, and Piper... I can't remember who I was chatting with when I created Piper, but I didn't name her, it was a collective deal. I do know, Nattie's responsible for her surname, Kin. The word itself means family, so Piper's a lot softer than my other characters and way more caring. I also really like the sound, Piper Kin... it flows so well (<3 Nattie).

mmkay, well none of my names are too original -_-

Alieh - Totaly made up. I wanted an A-name and I just fiddled around with sounds until I got Alieh

Niles - Used to know a guy called Niles a while back, it's also the name of a character in my fave TV show. I like the name because it's unusual =)

The two twins have no last name as of yet, it's a plot (That's just my lame excuse becauseI can't think up one :P)

Eilidh Dickson - My bestest friend in the whole wide world =) Basicly an exact copy of my best friend, same family, from the same place, except that my best friend isn't a bird :P

My names aren't that original either.

Eshaw: Totally made up, I liked how it sounded so I picked that.

Lythen: Also made up, I was laying in bed one night thinking about ef and I came up with the name Lythen.

Virdis: Well actually Virdis is Eshaw's pet iguana. It comes from the latin term viridis which means 'green' in english. So I took the second i out because it sounded better XD

Haha

I had to go and find an old gmail to Evie to find what Eivyonydd actually means.

But first, why I even started looking at Celtic mouthfuls.

Evie has an old character, made up probably 10 years ago now, who we love. Her names was Rioghnach, which we kindly shortened to Riona as a pet name for her nearest and dearest friends. She was awesome. ^_^

The meaning, or possibly not the meaning and just a fact, is "out of old tales", so not incredibly useful, but I kind of like the way that EF is creating it's own myth and stories. I'm sure that a lot of online roleplaying forums do the same. The interesting thing is that perhaps in 100 or 200 years time these stories that we are creating might still be around, in some strange archaic archived form, and they will have their own life and essence to them. Then Eivyonydd will be a name out of old tales. :D

For those interested in my short list; (I always go looking on baby name sites and short list names, then I'll often get Evie's input to decide which I want. Thanks Sweetie XD )
Drystan — Welsh version of Tristan, "full of sorrow".
Eivyonydd — a name out of old tales.
Manawydan — name of sea god Llyr's son; equal to Irish god Manannan mac Lir. He was a skilled shapeshifter and keppt the Isle of Man and the Isle of Arran under his protection; and broke the enchantment on Dyfed.
Sulien — (SIL-yen) from Welsh sul "sun" + geni "born". Originally the name of a Celtic sun god. 11th C. Welsh bishop of St. David's named Sulien was reputed to have been the most learned man in all Wales.

So now you know

Yay, names! :D

Tayui Vanim L'eh Tayui is purely made up, something I made up about three years ago. Vanim is her mate Shaeniire Vanim's last name that she took on, and L'leh is her last name, inherited from her mother. (Lots of people don't notice this, but its hell backwards, and she has a cousin called Nevaeh :3 )

Gabriel D'ecessus Pyrennth Gabriel is like my favourite real male name of all times <3 So I had to used it. Decessus is death in latin, and pyrennth is a play on the word 'pyro,' since he's a pyrokinetic. His name, roughly means 'strong man of god and death by fire' :P Quite the contradiction, but it works with his character perfectly.

Abigail Nightingale Uhhh, yeah. My seven year old character who named herself XD Abigail means 'my father is joy' which is totalllyyy a contradiction, since her daddy killed Gabriel's mommy :| Haha.

Hybrid Holocaust I didn't actually pick this name - this is my friend's character's brother. Her character is Faolin Mogotsi, and Hybrid is Hybrid Holocaust Mogotsi. I haven't even started roleplaying him, but I'm so excited! My first coyote chara :D

Takeda Niaraw Niaraw's name is like. Cool. Since Niaraw is a word I made up, and Takeda... well, I forget what it means XD He's also called himself: René Craig (An epitome of a past person), Uchitani Raidon (thunder god of the valley), Matsudaira Kazuo (Man of peace of the Matsudaira house).

Rolenq Acantha Aigle (Ροληνq Ακανθα Αιγλη) Rolenq is a combo of Roland and Enqu, Acantha = thorn, and aigle = light. Sooo, it menas 'hated famous land of thorns and light.'

I have a ton of other characters apart from these guys, too :P Hah XD -too lazy to post more- :/

Criera was just a name I liked. It reminded me of sky, for some reason, which seemed to fit with an angel.

For Dialto, I knew I wanted to create a demon. So, I followed this path: Demon->Devil->Diablo (Devil in Spanish)->Dialo->Dialto. Yay.
