It is the night of Halloween, at time where the slightest breath of wind sends chills down your spine. All day elysians have been bustling about, purchasing last-minute costumes and candies, quickly carving pumpkins and tossing them upon their porches, and lazily tacking up decorations on their doors. While others...others are preparing for the extravaganza. The Halloween party of all parties. It is something no one would miss...at least, no elysian would miss. The humans, well, they lived unaware of what their magical neighbors were up to. Most of them, at least. Soon the sun sinks below the horizon and shadows are cast upon the ground. Ever so slowly, people begin to trickle out their doors and head in one direction; towards the Fae Forest.
The party is easy enough to find, for the Fae Tree is the tallest among the trees. Its towering figure can be spotted not far from the portal in which the partiers are arriving. The scattering of dead leaves and murmuring of approaching creatures can be heard echoing amongst the branches as you stand nervously before entering. Once you gather up enough courage, you enter this seemingly different realm. Skeltons of leafless trees drape above you as you travel north into the heart of the forest. It is almost as though they are alive...their empty stares watching you, and their long thin fingers reaching out, ready to snatch you up on this spooktastic eve. After a poorly lit hike through this sea of shrubs, you push through one last branch and stumble upon a clearing bathed in an eerie moonlight. And there before you stands the Fae Tree, its magnificence only magnified by this cloudless night of mystery.
The first decoration you see, something elegent and fitting, is a black arch, dark green ivy snaking up the sides. A string of halloween lights shaped like small jack-o-lanterns is entwined amongst the ivy leaves, giving a small glow to the plants. Hanging from the center of the uppermost part of the arch is a blinking sign reading 'Beware'. On each side of the arch is a pile of pumpkins, each round, orange, and seemingly perfect. Stepping through the archway, the clearing around the Fae Tree is lit up by string after string of the same Halloween lights decorating the arch. A long buffet table is set up off to the side, a black table cloth spread over it. Sitting on the table are different Halloween treats, ranging from candy to punch to baked goods. The table stretches on into eternity, the darkness of the tablecloth rarely visible between the mounds of plates and platters. Five punch bowls sit at one end next to various Halloween themed napkins, plastic silverware, and cups. Their contents range in colors. One is orange, while another is thick and red. Blood perhaps? Every cookie is cut into something Halloween-related, orange icing and black sprinkles covering their surfaces. Cakes upon cakes fill your view. From eyeballs to bats to fake blood, nothing is non-festive on the table. There are a few pumpkins scattered upon it as well, some carved into jack-o-lanterns with flickering candles inside. Along with the pumpkins, there are a few black cat plushies adorning the table. And to the left of the grand buffet is a large, blown up Frankenstein. Stuffed halloween costumes are also shoved into the ground upon a stake, their eyeless sockets looking out into nowhere. Beware signs are hung wherever there is room, their letters seeming to have been painted with blood. Most of the clearing runs beside the buffet, a large space for socializing and dancing. Chairs are set up by the tree and the table...spots meant for resting when the party becomes too much. Bright, blinking lights can be seen on the opposite side of the clearing. You would have to walk across to see that they are actually game booths...a mini-carnival for those with dancing phobias to hang out. Lastly, a small stage with deep crimson curtains sits on the left side of the clearing bewtween the game booths and the food table. (when facing through the entrance arch, tree right, booths across, stage left, food next to, dancing space in the center)
Then you spot the lonely figures of two slender women, one taller than the other, standing awkwardly near the trunk of the tree. They seem to be talking to one another, and various frills and poofs can be seen from their silhouettes; they are obviously in costume. Music suddenly booms, then lowers and the genres change as the songs are flicked through; modern, classical, slow, loud bass, fast-paced...any type ever desired seems to be present in the boom box.
